The sick is 1) exempt from normal social roles- needs a doctor’s approval, 2) not responsible for his or her condition, 3) should try to get well, and 4) should seek help from their physician. The sick role gives expectations of the doctor patient relationship. It becomes the doctor’s job to give you the sources to get you back healthy, and the patient’s job to do the things necessary to be back into normal routines. Some people get criticized for being sick. I’ve came across some people who think if a person is sick they may be lying, or trying to get out of what they have to do that day. While perceiving that a few reactions of Parsons' hypothesis are substantial, we ought to note that some of this feedback depends on a misconception of his point of view.
