Hinduism, being a dynamic religion caters for all types of people, high thinkers and common people as well. High thinkers can think of or conceive God as Impersonal (without attributes/form) whereas common people with attributes, i.e. they can think of God as being Personal. Concerning the Personal aspect of God, Hinduism believes in the Hindu Trinity where we have Brahma as the Creator, Vishnu as the preserver and Shiva as the Destroyer. Whenever the existence of the world is threatened by evil forces, He incarnates on earth in human or non-human form to re-establish the balance between righteousness and unrighteousness. There he was struck by the four sights: (1) an old man, (2) a sick person, (3) a dead body, (4) an ascetic. Siddhartha had not known that all men are mortals, they have to go through old age and disease. The above sights brought a transformation in him. He was impressed by the ascetic whose face shown with a peaceful disposition. His mind was deeply disturbed by the four sights. In the end he left his palace, wife and son to lead a life of asceticism and to find the ‘Truth’. He practised severe austerities and penance to the point of self-mortification. He roamed a lot to find the truth but could not. It is usually believed that a woman, seeing Siddhartha very weak was full of pity and offered him porridge which he accepted. When he went to meditate he got enlightenment, from then onwards he was known as Buddha, the awakened or enlightened. It is from this incident that he learnt that he postulated his doctrine of the middle path, i.e one should be moderate in life and avoid
