Significant Presence In Shakespeare's Hamlet

In Hamlet by Shakespeare there are characters throughout the play who are talked about but they do not appear at all. These significant presences play a very important role in Hamlet. Shakespeare puts these characters in the play to show how they affect the theme, action, and personalities and growth of other characters. Hamlet meets his dead father’s presence, this then gives Hamlet a mission to get revenge on King Claudius and this shows many themes throughout the play. When Prince Hamlet encounters King Hamlet’s ghost, the Prince is shocked and somewhat scared but he listens to what seems to be his father. His father tells him that King Claudius put poison in his ear to kill him; he also tells him that he has ruined Denmark and the Queen. His father tells him to not take revenge on his mother but implies him to get revenge on Claudius for everything he has done. The Prince says he will do everything his father has commanded or implied for him to do. Hamlet has a plan in order to get revenge on King Claudius, Hamlet’s plan is to have a play at the castle that is an exact representation of everything that has happened with his father, mother, and King Claudius. When Hamlet starts acting mad people of course began to realize; King Claudius then calls Hamlet’s friends from college, Guildenstern and Rosencrantz to spy on Hamlet.
