Similarities And Differences Between The Hunger Games And Lord Of The Flies

The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding follows a group of English boys that survived a plane crash, landing on a deserted island. They are fighting for survival, living through many challenges such as hunting for their food, finding shelter, and signaling for help. Lord of the Flies is similar to the movie The Hunger Games, this movie follows Katniss Everdeen who took her sister's place in the Hunger Games. She quickly adapted to the training that followed the reaping of tributes but struggled with being social,
They had to adapt to the climate change, their surroundings, find food, and find a safe place to camp and hide. The Hunger Games and Lord of the Flies are similar in a survival point of view. They also have some differences, especially the way they handled each problem. Both stories needed to survive their surroundings, each other, and learn to hunt for food. Throughout the story, the group of young boys turned on each other and did not want to work together to survive while Katniss made friends with an opponent and then met with Peeta staying with him for the rest of the games.
During both stories, the character’s surroundings affected the way they survived and maintained life. In the book Lord of the Flies, Ralph talks about rules and obeying them, “We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English and the English are best at everything.” (Golding) yet the young boys were not listening very well and was doing their own thing. Towards the middle of Lord of the Flies, the young group of boys split into two different groups. Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and SamnEric were allies throughout the story until Simon passed away and SamnEric were kidnapped. That left Ralph and piggy to fend for themselves while Jack, Roger, the hunters, and a few little ones began taking over the island. Jack Stole SamnEric, torturing them to find information about Ralph and Piggy. This created a very different feeling than The Hunger Games. While Katniss was camping in the trees, waiting for people to pass by she spotted a young girl, Rue, who reminds her very much of her sister. They became partners after Katniss was stung by a Tracker Jacker and fell from the tree. Rue covered her in leaves and created a remedy to help Katniss heal. They were planning to kill Cato and his group but was unable to proceed because Rue was shot by one of the tributes in his group. Katniss killed him using the bow and arrow she collected and sung to Rue as she died. This shows a bond between them that was very strong in a big sister, little sister way. This is the first time people see Katniss cry and show remorse for the killings. She then tries to find Peeta and stumbled across his camouflaged body. He is hurt so she helps him to a nearby cave that was high enough to not be noticed. They
