Similarities Between America And France

Life within two countries hardly compare. America and France have been there for each other for quite sometime. France gave America the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of friendship. Recently, three Americans received France’s highest honor because they stopped a gunman on a train to Paris. Along with acts of peace, they have had their battles, too. America and France have their common shares, but their education systems, languages, and cultures are different. Of course, both countries’s school officials want to educate and lead their students where they need to be, but their main goals and setups are not alike. In America, children start kindergarten at the ages of five or six whereas children in France must start at the age of six. The order of each grade a child enters in French schools start with abbreviations, then in middle school they start the sixth grade and end in first grade. Food is global; every country has their domestic meals. French people take meals seriously, Americans do not. Americans are quick to choose fast food restaurants over home cooked meals. Fresh bread is bought from a bakery daily and is a priority in most French households. Wine is served with the majority of meals, even teenagers will drink a glass. Drinking under the age of twenty-one is looked down upon in America. It is a cliché to think French people are snobby. They have a strict love for France. French people truly believe in their native traditions. For example, greeting with la bise (kissing), is acceptable in France. When someone greeting, he or she will use up to five kisses.
