Similarities Between American Beauty And The Mayans
The Mayan and American Religious practices are very different and similar in many ways. The Mayans have different styles of beauty than we do. They Mayans parents start making their child beautiful at a very young age, when they are infants the parents squish the head between two pieces of board. Additionally, they suspend a pearl between the child’s eyes which causes them to be cross eyed forever. In American beauty, we usually don’t use beauty products until about middle school. But, they are still not painful unlike the mayans way. For example, we have eye shadow which does not hurt when you put it on unless you are allergic to it. These are a couple examples of how the Mayans and Americans have different religious practices.

The term “Native American” doesn’t just refer to just North American Indians, but South American and Mesoamericans too. What’s interesting, though, is how many similarities the three regions’ various cultures share. In North and Mesoamerican native cultures, the people built earthen mounds, for both religious and burial purposes, as well as a show of power. In North America they were built sometimes as just a plain, earthen mound while in some areas they were built in animal designs. In Mesoamerica they were created to resemble mountains and volcanoes, and were also adorned with colored clays to help create the effect. In South America they didn’t create earthen mounds, but they did create gigantic earth drawings made out of lines in the ground…

What comes to mind as two nearly identical cultures from Mesoamerica, the Aztecs and the Mayans have many other differences and similarities that help distinguish one from the other. Factors such as social classes show why a fusion of both cultures may occur in this region. Religion and agriculture are also two other factors that may give a sense of similarity, but also show the difference among them.…

The most prominent factor in determining the myth differences in each culture was the climate and type of ecosystem that the civilization inhabited. In the Japanese tale of creation, the two parent Gods Izanagi and Izanami had three offsprings of which one was evil (Murtagh, NA). Because of his actions the parents sentenced the misbehaving god child to the sea so that he could not harm the islands but in his rage he still terrorized the coasts with tidal waves and hurricanes. This explanation is pretty adequate for the formation of the Japanese islands. When you look at the Popol Vuh, gods are as plentiful as number of species in the animal kingdom. The South American region was a lot more diverse in plant life and animal life and it had obvious impacts in what the Mayans believed. Venomous snakes were the descendents of gods that wanted to harm and terrify humans while the descendent of jaguars and hawks were elegant creations that might have come from powerful and confident spirits. The landscape consisted of Highlands and Lowlands that were important for crops and trade. Weather was very humid and the vegetation was heavy (Bulliet, 311). When the Mayan and Japanese geologies are compared in contrast to their creation myths, you can see how much of the environment affected each…
