Ancient Greece and Rome Government Comparison Essay.

Ancient civilizations played a major role in today's civilization. They influenced us in many ways such as trading, religion and politics. Ancient Greece followed a specific government form for quite a while while Rome followed a Republic government. Democracy is a form of government in which the people have the right to vote. Even today our government is in the form of democracy and republic. Although both times have been run by democracy and the two have major comparison points The Founding Fathers favored a Republic government.

    Throughout history there have been several government structures that govern the people of the state, some ran differently, but maybe similar as well. There is a fine line between a democracy and a republic although there are some similarities. In a democracy, the citizens are their own form of government, all having equal say. In a republic, citizens still have high power but use that power to elect representatives to govern the state. I want to focus on two forms of historic government, that both reflect and contradict each other, that of the Athenian Democracy and the Roman Republicanism. The Athenian’s emphasized political and modest display, and believed in the power of the individual human (Cole, Symes, Coffin, & Stacey 2011, 58), therefore citizens of Athens called the shots. Also, the citizens of Rome had the ultimate power, but they used that power to vote in chief executives to help govern Rome. Both governments have left a mark on history and in fact, they even are partially emulated by our very own, the United States of America.     The Ancient Greek and Roman governments were pretty much the very first example of a Democratic government leading our government to become what it is now in the United States. Document A, which was part of a speech given by the Roman general Scipio in which he spoke about the system of the Roman government, he talked about how the constitution that Romans had was not created by an individuals. It also talks about the nobles who acted as representatives of the people and how their choices were not made without the consent of the citizens. This is like our modern government because our constitution was made by a group officials and not just one person, so there were many views, just like the Romans had. Our governments are also run by the representatives who listen to and support the ideas that the citizens have. Today we also have some of the same rights and opinions that the governments had then.
