Similarities Between Antigone And Creon
This can be seen in many types of literature. Where there is a character that is figuratively blind compared to others around them. One example is in “Antigone” written by Sophocles. In the story, Antigone, there are two distinct characters that are blind Antigone and Creon. Antigone was sent to death by Creon because she tried to give her brother a proper funeral when Creon said not to. In jail Antigone said she had no other choice but to kill herself and so she did. She was blind to the fact that other people would come to help her get out. She was also blind to the idea that Creon would let her out and that she didn't have to kill herself. This blindness that she had gave her power because the actions she took effected everyone around her.
Because of her blindness and killing herself it caused other actions to take place like Creon’s wife killing herself as well, out of sadness. And because his wife is dead Creon still leads, but is very depressed. Another action caused by Antigone’s blindness is she changed the whole story if she didn't kill herself the story would have been changed. Her blindness was clouding her vision of what would happen in the future or what else could happen. Creon on the other hand was blind to the fact that he was governing his land wrong, like having outrageous rules. Yet he was still a leader. His blindness of what is going on effects his choices, even though some were bad the other good choices he made outweighs his bad ones. He made harsh punishment to keep his people and land safe. In sending Antigone to the cave to die he shows that he stands behind his law and no matter who it is, if they break one of his laws punishment will be given. In most cases a king won’t send his own niece to die, since she is part of the family a normal person would try to find a way around it. But Creon being figuratively blind does not see the problem and see that she is part of the family. In sending her to the cave he shows others in his land that he has an iron fist. It stops other people from break the laws because they are scared of what he will do to them since he sent his own niece to die.
