Hercules and April are very similar in different ways. In the beginning of both stories, both characters didn’t have many or any friends before they found their identity. No one wanted to be their friend because they were different from everyone else. Also before they found their identity, April and Hercules didn’t know who they truly were. April was behind a mask that told her who she was as a person.
With the mask on; she didn’t know who she really was. Hercules only cared about his strength at one point. All he did was show off his strength to others instead of the bravery, loyalty, and kindness he had. Once they found their identity they became even braver and stronger than they were before.
April and Hercules are very similar, but they have many differences. A mask was separating April from her identity while strength was separating Hercules from his. In April’s story she had a mask that no one else had. Since hers was different she was always alone and no one wanted to be around her. She was scared because she didn’t know who she was until she finally took the mask off. April was inspired to find her true identity. In Hercules’ story, he was the strongest person alive there. He was bullied and teased because he was so strong, clumsy and not very intelligent. He felt like he didn’t belong. He found his identity from trying to save the people he loved. He learned that strength wasn’t important. April and Hercules found their identity in different ways.
Students can learn a lot about finding their true identity from April and Hercules. They can learn that it is okay to be different. April and Hercules were very different from everyone else in their stories. They can also learn that you don’t have to show off for others to like you. Hercules learned that from trying to show off his strength. Finally, you learn that others can accept you for who you are as a person and the identity that you have.
