In today’s day and age, although it has gone down from what is has previously been, racism and discrimination is still an issue. 3 This is why I believe that Civil Rights has more influence on my life. As an African American, there are still injustices towards me due to my race. Civil Rights deals with fair treatment for all races and equality is still a hot topic among
African Americans. For example the Black Lives Matter Movement is all about discrimination and unequal treatment due to being “black,” this is why I believe Civil Rights to have more influence on my life as of right now.
Please v. Ferguson was a Civil Rights case that outruled the “separate but equal doctrine.”
In the case the Supreme Court rebuked the doctrine. Mapp v. Ohio 1961 was a Civil Liberties case which said that “illegally obtained evidence is inadmissible in court.” Between these two cases, the Civil Rights case would have more impact on the lives of individuals. This is because
Civil Liberties deal more with the courts in itself and Civil Rights have more impact on the common man in his/her daily life.
