As a religion Hinduism has the least social mobility, with the caste system it is nearly impossible to increase your status in that lifetime. Hindus believe that if you complete your duties or dharma you will receive good karma and in the next life you will increase in your status or caste. But during your current life it was scowled at to marry outside of your caste, thus further hindering social mobility. Patriarchy was diffused deeply in both religions; Hinduism saw women as household up-keepers and should respect all words from a man’s mouth. Likewise in Confucianism, women were placed at the bottom of social patriarchy according to the 5 key relationships (ruler/subject, parent/child, husband/wife, elder sibling/younger sibling, friend=friend), women were in the household much of the time in China taking care of the children. The emphasis of education is present in both religions explicitly, yet Confucianism gave the power to the educated. In Hinduism an uneducated person is equivalent to an animal, it is vital to achieve the four aims of human life Dharma, Artha, Kama and moksha. Vidya or education was needed because it is needed to control desires and preform the correct Dharma. Being uneducated in Hindu culture would remove you from the caste.
