All religions are very specific with the details which set that religion apart from others. However, when all the little details are melted away, there are only a mere handful that are different in essence. When looked at closely, even the religions which are perceived completely dissimilar at first glance are surprisingly similar. For example, the Voodoo religion, and that of early Christianity are stereotyped as extremely different, but with closer inspection, not only are these two religions are very obviously similar, but Voodooism stemmed, partly, out of Christianity. Both religions revolve around a mortal individual being used as a mouthpiece by a higher, being, be it spirit or god, to communicate with our mortal world. Yet at the same time, each religion has taken it's own path and although equivalent in essence, have very different aspects with respect to background (such as time and status), as well as publicity, and language.…
Reincarnation is a common belief in the eastern part of the world, with Buddhism as well as Hinduism, supporting the idea of rebirth. In Hinduism each person has an essential self which is called the Atman, and is eternal and seeks unity with God. At physical death, the Atman leaves the body and enters another at birth. The physical body is gone but the Atman remains the same. The status of the body that the Atman re-enters is depended on whether in the previous life the person was morally good or bad, if good it will be in a higher status body, and if bad will be in a lower status body. This cycle of rebirth, birth and death is called Karma which Buddhism also follows, except they do not believe in a soul, but instead the five skandhas which are woven together and make a person attract karma. These two religions are heavily followed in the eastern part of the world and so therefore it may be argued that because it is an accepted belief it is therefore normal to believe in such an idea, however in the western part of the world where religions such as Christianity are followed it is not as accepted. Some would also question the fairness of suffering in this life for something in a past life which they cannot remember and that punishment doesn’t have a value unless you understand what it is for; it needs to be associated with something. However, Hindus would argue that karma is not seen as a punishment; it is just bearing out the karmic fruits…

How would it feel to know that after you died, you would be reborn into a new body? That the deciding factor in what you would become was how you lived your life? Beliefs like these have existed for at least 3,000 years. Originating and commonly practiced in Western countries, this is called reincarnation. To know that you have lived many lives before this one and that there are many more to come is a very attractive perspective from which to judge the meaning of life. It can be a great comfort for those who seek liberation on the exclusive basis of their inner resources. While the general concept is present in a number of religions, there are also significant differences between the various belief systems, namely Hinduism and Buddhism.…
Though each religion gained government support, Buddhism gained the support of Ashoka, and Christianity gained Constantine's support. Also, Christianity was a reaction to Judaism, while Buddhism was a reaction to Hinduism. Each religion had its own individual representatives, as well. Gautama inspired Buddhism, while Jesus inspired Christianity. These religions had their own attitudes to the world and its doing. Buddhism places an emphasis on misery, while Christianity stressed sins, and they each had different teaching on how to deal with these miseries and sins; this lead to different views on how to lead a holy life and on the intervention of divine forces. To achieve holiness in Buddhism one had to free oneself of desire, by following the Eight Fold Path. In Christianity, to achieve holiness one had to free oneself of…
Both the Hindus and the Buddhists believed in reincarnation and that there are two places that you could go after death, either a good place or a bad place. A difference is that Hindus believe in the caste system, which lead to arranged marriages, because they could not marry outside of their caste. But the Buddhists did not believe in the caste system and tried to see past it. The Hindus had four Vadas, which were Samhita which were prayers and hymns, Brahmans which were rituals and theology, also the caste system was ordered here, and Aranyanka and Upanishads which were works of philosophy and mysticism. While Buddhists followed the Eight Fold Path and Four Noble Truths, which were suffering, greed, selflessness, and to follow the eight fold path.…
Destiny - The greatest difference between Buddhism and Christianity lies with the belief in destiny. Christianity teaches an afterlife of a literal heaven or hell. Buddhists do not believe in an afterlife but rather in karma, which based on your present day good or bad actions will have an affect on your next…
Every religion in the world has similarities and differences towards another religion. For example, Islam and Christianity are similar since they both believe that there is only one God. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. But they also have their differences such that Islam does not believe in Trinity, whereas in Christianity they believe in Trinity which means that God has three forms. The same goes to Hinduism and Buddhism, they are two different religions but they have their similarities and differences which makes them unique. The differences and similarities in the religions also apply to Hinduism and Buddhism.…

Whereas Buddhism was based upon the self-motivated search for liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth, Christianity was a monotheistic religion that focused on the idea of Good vs. Evil and judgment at the end of one’s life by the one and only true god. These ideas both pleased the people within the regions in which they emerged, but were nonetheless very different. While Buddhism was characterized by meditation, karma, and nirvana, Christianity had a sharper political and social edge due to the fact that Jesus was associated with the impure. The ideologies of Buddhism and Christianity had differing perspectives on the duties of their followers.…
Buddhism and Christianity have some slight similarities, but are vastly different in respect to the spiritual perspective and approach to healing. Buddhism does not necessarily encompass a spiritual perspective and is based on The Four Noble Truths set forth by founder, Siddhartha Gautama. Gautama achieved self-salvation through meditation and had an epiphany about how to be free of suffering. In doing so, he became the “Enlightened One” and was hence known as the Buddha. The truths revolve around suffering and are: the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. The Buddha's Four Noble Truths can be said to be a type of formula for healing. In these truths is the recognition of the cause of suffering, and the path that treats the cause of the suffering. Suffering, physically or spiritually, can then be healed through prayer and meditation and achieving mental clarity on their way to Nirvana. Although prayer is also common in the Christian religion, achieving Nirvana is not. Buddhism’s spiritual perspective is only similar to Christian perspective because they use prayer as an approach to healing. However, a Buddhists prayer is more an inner prayer to achieve mental clarity for healing, and Christian’s prayer is to God. In both religions, the healing of the body is not just physical, but also spiritual. Both religions believe in physical healing by way of a spiritual connection, however, in Buddhism the body acts with the mind and in Christianity, the body acts with God. Buddhism is a seemingly individual religion that focuses on the person, their mind and their actions, with their health care approach mirroring this. “Buddhism asserts that for lasting healing to occur, it is necessary to heal not only the current disease with medicines and other forms of treatment, but also the cause of the disease, which originates from the mind.”…

The Hindu temple was the first temple that are class attended. It was such a different atmosphere then the usual church setting I was accustom too. From every statue to every piece of clothing the Hindu temple was an incredible place to be in. It had a smoky scented smell in the room. The Gods had very colorful elaborate clothing on. The women would bring the clothing to make the gods look better than us humans. The only time the women would change the clothes would be before the festivals. The temple even had a bell in the middle that you would ring when entering so they would know your there. I recognized many different gods that we talked about in class. Lord Rama was to the left with his wife Cita and his brother Lakmasha, and then you had Lord Krishna to the right. The Hindu Priest was telling us that Rama was more about discipline and Lord Krishna taught how to mediate and taught the different principles. I also seen other gods such as Lord Laymi, the god of wealth, they had the nine planetary of astronomy, and I also identified Durga the mother God. One interesting thing I learned was when you wanted to get married, you would go to the Hindu Priest and he would look at the stars to see if you were going to be compatible. Another thing I learned was in the South of India they used black stone for their statue cause it was stronger, and in the north they use white stone.…
