Compare and contrast ways on which two of your chosen writers present in the light of this comment.
‘Passion’ – A very strong emotion or a sexual desire? ‘Enduring Love’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ are both novels that show off different aspects on ‘passion’. The two authors portray ‘passion’ to be a key element in their relationships. However with ‘passion’ comes an emotional consequence, whether it being it making you feel ‘liberated’ or ‘imprisoned’.

Instead of a novel ‘A Streetcar named Desire’ is a play, which also focus’s on another couple, called the ‘Kowalski’s’, Stanley and Stella have been married for a year and are having their first child together. The two of them have come from completely different backgrounds; Stanley is a working class ‘Polack’, born and raised in America but his family is from Poland. On the other hand, Stella is from a higher class French decent family that had a lot of wealth to their name. Whereas, McEwan was writing as he is concerned with conveying the superiority of the empirical and rational approach – the contrast between the romantic and scientific. Although McEwan told the story from Joe’s perspective, as Joe was the narrator, the narration showed a lot of McEwan’s personality as the novel was full of scientific nature, leaving the audience well informed and the novel more interesting. McEwan was interested in delusional behaviour and stalking. The difference between Jed and Blanche is that Jed was never sane, and Blanche suffered from a mental breakdown. In ‘Enduring Love’ Joe was in control of the story telling and our feelings towards each character whereas in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ we sympathise with Blanche as Tennessee Williams shows each character as a individual person and we learn about their character through there actions and stage
