Similarities Between Johnny And Dally
How can two people who are so different, have so much in common? In S.E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, Dallas Winston and Johnny Cade are perfect examples of this situation. Johnny is law abiding, but Dally likes to break laws. Dally likes to fight, but Johnny despises violence.     He comes from an extremely abusive home and needs the greaser gang just as much as they needed him. He needs them for protection and a sense of purpose. While the gang needs him because Johnny gives them a sense of purpose and justification of their violence without Johnny, the gang would be next to nothing.     Both characters are quiet, scared of the Socs, lack parental guidance due to loss of parents and abusive parents, and both are the most innocent members of the greasers. On the other hand these two characters were different as well. Johnny was also different than Ponyboy by their age, being an only child, one carried a knife, one coming from abusive parents while the other lost his parents. Throughout the story readers are able to step into the world of these young men and see how both of their characters change and grow after time and through the tragic events that occur. The story is centered on the life of Ponyboy Curtis. In short the story is about two groups of people, the Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. It is a story of the poor and the rich against each other. These two gangs are full of people who dislike each other intensely. After Ponyboy is attacked by the Socs in the beginning of the novel, a fight breaks out between the two gangs. Lennie from Of Mice and Men is a large man which comes as a disadvantage because of his mental challenges.
