David and Julia also shared goals on an individual’s abilities to make greener communities. Julia hopes that we can transform the energy system. In Germany people are using their own solar power for electricity. She hopes that more and more people will use solar power to create electricity and contribute to make a greener environment. David’s goal is to educate students on greener options for their community including: solar power homes and buildings and using local

Energy has easily become one of the most important necessities for our everyday lives. Without it we would simply not be able to have transportation or be able to gather any of our other resources that we depend on. If at anytime our energy supply ceases or no longer attainable the results may be horrific. However, it is quite easy to keep this from happening, It is crucial that our current population realize the importance of sustaining our present non-renewable resources. An examination of all the present energy issues and human impacts of energy conservation along with the a resource plan will show importance of energy sustainability how it must be a success.…

In his work David uses different ways that appeal to the emotion of the readers (Joyce, p 8). In the article get your kids away from the screen, his reflection as being a kid to bring out the excitement that comes with playing outside. This feeling of adventures of children makes the parents see that they need to let their children play outside to enjoy a period full of joy and happiness. As a reader is reading this, he or she also remembers individual childhood days thus stirring out happy emotions. The author’s choice of words stirs up concerns and fears to the readers in the middle of the article. “The gap between the time spent inside and outside is widening…if we don’t, we will never raise…” this helps create awareness of what readers are a parent should be aware and take action to avoid regrets. In climate change article, David creates an appeal of fear by stating that global warming is real and has negative effects. “…global warming is real…it is too late to stop it now, but we can lessen the severity and the impacts.” The rhetoric question on the title of the third article, are necessary plastic intrigues the reader and makes their minds full of curiosity (Grethlein,…

Environmental psychology research has been incorporated into architecture such as homes with material on the roof to generate solar power energy instead of employing local company power and energy that could create an expensive monthly bill. People who continually drive to work instead of use public transportation or people who consume unnecessary energy at home or at the workplace are have an effect on the environment such as causing depletion of the ozone layer, pollution, and sporadic climate change. People who develop healthy lifestyles including eating healthy, exercising, and learning about environmental sustainability would contribute more to decreasing pollution, climate change, and depletion of the ozone layer. “Essential items on both the research and policy agendas concerning sustainability are the resource intensity of human production…

Every resident in this community is reliant on outside sources that use non-renewable resources for power and to clean our water. Every day the resources used are depleted and will eventually run out; in the meantime we set idly by and watch prices escalate. Fossil fuels emit many pollutants (EPA, 2008) into the air and encourage global warming. Those outside sources subject this community to rate increases and dependency on weather conditions. Renewable energy is found in many forms, generated by the earth. Effectively harnessing these energies will reduce gas emissions (EPA, 2008.)…

Over the last few decades our world has seen a migration or a swift transition, if you will, from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy. The book, The Great Transition, by Lester R. Brown, is an account of that very change our world has seen with respect to the global energy revolution. The book details the shift in philosophy different countries have embraced over the years, going from the conventional oil, nuclear power and coal to the less conventional and more exciting renewable energies. As the world tries to shift away from the use of fossil fuels due to the ongoing increase in pollution and impending climate changes new ways to minimize the impact on our environment are continuously being created. However, these changes cannot…

Energy is requirement of every country in today’s world. It has become a basic need of almost every human being. Energy has different forms for example, mechanical energy, solar energy, nuclear energy and so on. Another form of energy is electricity. Electricity is used to light our houses, offices, schools, buildings, streets and so on. Its importance increases when there is no sunlight available. This type of energy can be used in light bulbs, street lights and so on. As the energy has become an important…

Solar power is not an entirely reliable source of power as it relies on the availability of the sun, however, using solar power to run some of the smaller, non-essential items would reduce the use of electricity generated by fossil fuels. Solar panels can be installed on the roof using tilt frames and facing as closely to north as possible to maximise their efficiency. Where roof mounted panels are not possible a dedicated solar powered hot water system would reduce the use of traditional electric or gas systems.…

Solar energy is lauded as an inexhaustible fuel source that if free of pollution and has very few adverse effects on the earth. An example states that big windows placed on the sunny side of a building allow sunlight to heat absorbent materials on the fllor and walls. These surfaces then release the heat at night to keep the building warm. Similarly, absorbent plates on a roof can heat liquid in tubes that supply a house with hot water. (National Geographic) In my own life, I have experienced the amazing power of solar energy. As a small child growing up in Guyana, South America, I remember taking cold showers in the morning. By the afternoon time, the sun would heat up our plastic, Rubbermaid water tanks and I would experience for a short period, ‘hot water.’ Of course, this has improved over the years, and many households in my country choose to apply solar water heaters to their homes. This helps to save on electricity and other costs.…

For a while as a society we’ve known that our dependency on fossil fuels would eventually have to come to an end. Not only in America but in other countries tend to be the main source of energy. Because these things are made from organic matter they will run out. Hence fossil fuels are considered a nonrenewable resource. Exploring some other alternatives makes sense. Solar energy incorporated into buildings seems like a reliable source that will be around for the long run. A buildings exposure to the sun and the heat it produces creates electrons that are then captured into the system and turned into electricity. Some people will argue solar energy isn’t a hundred percent efficient because that on days when the sun isn’t exactly shining or its dark and gloomy outside you will have low voltages and the cost of solar panels and materials to create a solar energy system can be high. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives in the end. This innovative technology can be used for a variety of different things as small as fueling a cell phone to a system that is large enough to power a modern day building. The main resource of solar energy is the heat that comes from the sun which is a source that is provided in abundance. This energy sources is also a realistic alternate source of energy that could compete with fossil fuels. Furthermore, the cost of installing a solar system in a building has decreased from previous years. Where a system would have cost in the neighborhood of $12 per watt of energy produced in 1998, it now costs a third of that price in 2013. That makes the system far more available and more affordable for the average homeowner. Along with tax credits from government incentive programs the savings overtime would more than cover the money it took to incorporate solar energy into a home or any type of building.…
