Similarities Between Macbeth And To Kill A Mockingbird
Inside William Shakespeare's, Macbeth and Harper Lee’s, To Kill A Mockingbird there are several examples of power and corruption. The actions of characters from both the book and the play are influenced by something besides themselves. Both texts convey the message that when one becomes corrupted by power, that power is not sustainable. Inside the story of Macbeth, Macbeth sends his men to MacDuff's castle to murder MacDuff’s wife and children. This is done because Macbeth is told by the first apparition, an armoured head, “Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware MacDuff, Beware the thane of Fife. Let me go. Enough.”(VI,i,77-79). This can be related to Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, when Bob Ewell attempts to kill Atticus Finch’s children,

One major parallel between Macbeth and Scar include the actions surrounding the gruesome murders of the king. As an overview of events, in Act III, Macbeth stabs King Duncan, to whom he pledged loyalty to his king, and uses the guards, Malcolm, and Donalbain as scapegoats through manipulation; however, both instances include undesirable results for the villain. Likewise, Scar murdered his own flesh and blood, Mufasa, the king of Pride Rock, by throwing his brother off a high cliff, and used his nephew, Mufasa’s son, as a scapegoat, also through manipulation. Eventually, both felonious villains create a tyrannous nation of their new land. Analyzing the events in more detail, the actions between Macbeth and Scar justify one another by their…

In literature, "evil often triumphs but never conquers."(Joseph Roux) A triumph is only short- term, for example, something short- term would be an achieved title, a victory in a battle, or a winner in a game. These three things are only temporary, as triumphs usually are in novels. When something is conquered, it remains conquered permanently. Usually the evil force is unable to conquer, because of the opposite side 's mentality. Because of these definitions, this statement is showing that even though evil characters or actions prevail in battles or events, the feat would not last forever, especially in the hearts and minds of the opposite side. I agree with this statement because there is proof that this is true in novels that I have read. Many novels have this common theme: good versus evil. This theme is shown in two works, Macbeth and To Kill A Mockingbird.…

In Macbeth, the main character, the greed for power corrupts Macbeth. For example at the beginning of the play, Macbeth is portrayed as a person of conscience and nobility who wouldn’t commit the act of murder as he has a conscience. Macbeth’s greed begins at the first meeting of the witches where the context of superstition was an accepted norm, “All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!” This meeting ignited Macbeth’s latent greed which set him on his ultimate goal of domination. Through the use of dialogue and imagery Shakespare’s sets the scene for the ultimate tragedy. The positive power exercised by Lady Macbeth through her manipulation of her husband’s greed to help to achieves her own ends, “Your hand, your tongue: look like the innocent flower,…

William Shakespeare’s Macbeth exemplifies the theme of passion and power versus morality. The play begins when three witches promise Macbeth, thane of Glamis, that he will inherit Cawdor and later become King. “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!” “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” (Shakespeare 14) Once he is named thane of Cawdor, he becomes compelled by the thought of being crowned King. As the current King is still living, Macbeth finds himself thinking of the impossible, murder. As he contemplates whether he should kill the king or not, the desire for power slowly permeates his moral duties, making him more and more ruthless. He is no longer what he seems, “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.” (2)…

Equally, in Shakespeare's Macbeth, the witches tell Macbeth to be cautious of Macduff, "Beware Macduff, Beware the Thane Fife!" (125). “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Lord Acton’s 19th century words of wisdom were never more true than in the pages of Shakespeare's Macbeth tragedy. The corruption of power is one of the major and overarching themes of this play, Shakespeare uses charter dialogue and actions to flawlessly portray the corrupting grip that power wields. He shows just how cruel this kingdom of corruption can get. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are by far the most corrupted by power as their blood soaked pursuit of total authority clearly shows. Aggressive and abusive behavior forces the pair to the extremes, ultimately making the capricious decisions to usurp the throne by assassinating King Duncan.…
