Similarities Between Marquez And Vonnegut
Both novelists, combine a strong belief in fate with the ability to be disburdened from guilt and condone violence. Marquez and Vonnegut suggest that fate is human creation that serves as an escape from responsibility, since if a person believes that the future is already planned they believe that they have no ability change the future. Additionally, the relationship between fate, guilt, and justification of violence is apparent in both novels. Marquez invites the reader to consider that fate is not as strong as the townspeople believe since they all played a role in allowing the murder to occur. Vonnegut similarly suggests that Billy can only cope with the horrendous occurrences of war by creating a world of his own in which fate is the explanation
