Let me tell you a little bit
about Antigone first. The play was based off of one of Sophocles plays about how two brothers Eteocles and Polyneices fighting each other in the Thebes civil was and killed each other for the right to rule the kingdom. The new rule of the kingdom did not like Polyneices actions so he ordered that his body will be shames and left for the animals to feed off of him on the battlefield that they fought each other on. Antigone didn't like this matter at all so she broke the law and gave her brother a proper burial.
Both main characters in the play felt they needed to bear the pain and in the end they died for what they believed in. Antigone does not have the ability to oppose the new kings authority; she must in this story obey his orders. However, Antigone does show us how strong willed she is and how she projects her opinions. Antigone breaks the laws and dares to go against the authorities. Antigone loves and fought for her brother to give him the burial he deserves, but also feels the need for her thoughts to be heard by people around her. I thought it was the right decision on her part to want to give her brother a proper burial and speak her mind for once. Antigone should not have to stay quite for some man, she is a strong powered women that needs to have to write to be heard. Antigone’s sister doesn't see herself as such, she recognized herself as a women in a world that is run by men.
