Romeo and Juliet and “Teen Couple Executed by their Parents…for daring to fall in love,” both involve the deaths of the couples all happening at a young age, all of them dying before the age of 19 before any of their parents died. Throughout both stories a common factor is that the couples were forced to make adult decisions about their lives and love lives; while, the adults around them were making many poor decisions. Maybe that is why when the time came, both mothers…

What would Romeo and Juliet be like if Juliet hadn't died? What if Paris killed Romeo, instead of vice versa? What if instead of occurring several centuries ago, it took place on the streets of New York City during the 1950s, with a bunch of fresh-faced youths posing as street toughs and dancing and singing their hearts out? Well, just take a look at West Side Story, and you will have your answers. It is impossible for anyone familiar with both texts to not note the obvious major similarities between the two plays. From the opening scenes in both, up through the rumble in West Side Story/death of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, the plays mirror each other (Poelstra). It isn't until the last part of West Side Story, where Tony, our modern-day Romeo, dies and Maria, Tony's Juliet, doesn't (unlike the two star-crossed lovers of Shakespeare's work), that the major difference between the two works becomes apparent.…

Can events in real life show what is going to happen in the short future? Showing foreshadowing can be essential for a short story. There are a wide variety in lines of foreshadowing, that are well displayed, in the stories “The Scarl Ibis” by James Hurst and “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe. In the short story “The Scarl Ibis”, a line which includes foreshadowing is, “I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us” (Hurst 323). This shows that Doodle, the little brother will die, because throughout the book Doodle tells the narrator to not leave him and he is left and dies in the harmful weather. One of the questions that I have pertaining to creating an annotated bibliography in APA format is whether or not the explanations and paragraphs of each reference should be indented the same as the reference. As I was reading the annotated bibliographies samples in the Purdue Online writing lab, I have noticed that the paragraphs under the references are flush with the indentation of the reference and the first sentence of each paragraph is not indented (OWL, 2009). However, as I was reading this week’s lesson and other classmates’ forums and comments here at AMU, I have noticed that the paragraphs are not indented as they are in the Purdue Online writing. This has me confused and I would like to know which is the correct form, AMU or the…
