“The Seafarer” is about men who made a living on a boat. The people had to leave all of the ladies and children at home (the background ). The mood of this story is gloomy. In lines 2-3, it says, ”How the sea swept me back and forth in sorrow and fear and pain.” I believe that quote is talking about how the waves push the boat back and forth, and the people didn't know what that was, so it caused them fear. In lines 17-18, the poet uses the imagery of winter weather to emphasis a feeling of isolation: “Alone in a world blown clear of love, Hung with icicles. The hailstorms flew.” The theme talks about the hope of finding a place in life.
