During the Spanish-American War, yellow journalism was introduced which provoked the war, while during World War 1 Propaganda Posters were put up, such as a gorilla holding up an american woman, to encourage young men to enroll into the war and serve our country. Another similarity is that prior to both wars, there was a sinking of a ship and the sinking of those ships are said to be a reason for the U.S entry in the war, but in fact they are not. Prior to the Spanish-America the United States battleship Maine was docked at the Havana Harbour, was suddenly blown up, and 260 officers and men on board were killed. The U.S blamed Spain for the explosion and many people believe that this was a cause of the War. Similarly, prior to World War 1, a German U-boat torpedoed and sank the Lusitania. Many people also believe that this was a reason for the start of World War 1, but in fact it was not. These two similarities are very important between each war, but one similarity that I found more shocking than the other similarities, is that a letter was intercepted before each war and was discovered by people that it was not intended to be shown …show more content…
Both of these wars have been very important in U.S history and have shaped America to be as strong and respected as we are today. Throughout this essay, one can infer that the Spanish American War and World War 1 are different because of the reasons for the wars, weapons, casualty numbers, and who the wars were against. On the other hand, the wars are similar because of the battle strategies, sinking of ships, the use of propaganda, and the final results.
