Similarities of a Mid Summer’s Night Dream and the Princess Bride

In a Mid Summer’s Night Dream and The Princess Bride, specific scenes between the couples, show and tell about how foolish, true love really is.
By telling of how foolish it is that men can break vows faster than women can actually make the vow itself. “By all the vows that ever men have broken, In number more than ever women spoke, In that same place thou hast appointed me, To-morrow truly will I meet with thee”(1.1.10).This quote who was said by Hermia, talks about how not only Hermia knows this; she chooses to swear on it. Throughout the play one thing that you can depend on in true love is the foolishness it brings to the characters and their true love. Helena is in love with Demetrius throughout the whole entire play where she constantly makes a fool out of herself by trying to be near Demetrius whenever she can. Helena wants to see Demetrius, even if it is only to have him scorn her and about he truly does not love her the way that she does. “But herein mean I to enrich my pain, To have his sight thither and back again”.(1.1.6).In this quote, said by Helena, she talks about how she can make herself feel better about the pain, she has been given from Demetrius, if only she could see him. In love, Helena shows complete foolishness and lack of judgment regarding to whom she should give her affection to such as Demetrius. In the Princess Bride, Westley who is the farm boy is constantly doing whatever, he is told to do by Buttercup. He will utter the words “As you wish” and then rush off to whatever she wants done. He is being foolish about being in love with Butter cup because of how; he doesn’t realize what he is doing. It’s just like Helena and Demetrius’s relationship in fact that Westley loves Buttercup and is “chasing after her” and Buttercup who is like Demetrius, who doesn’t realize she loves him, after all those years on the farm. He shows complete foolishness as well as lack of judgment regarding to buttercup who he loves. Westly has tried to leave the farm before, but that was when he realized how much he was in love with her and her characteristics. Later into the story, when Buttercup is kidnapped by the three villains and they are being pursued by the man in black. Vizzini keeps uttering the word, inconceivable as if he doesn’t realize the meaning of the word that he is using. He doesn’t realize that it is possible to have other people follow you to another location, no matter how deadly. He is foolish because he doesn’t realize how easy it is for someone to follow you. Because of this, it is easy to see that Vizzini is easily tricked such as during the battle of wits, when he was tricked between the two glasses of wine laced with the untestable poison and wound up dead anyway.
