Simple living and high thinking is a way of life. It indicates that one should devote one's life to the pursuit of knowledge and culture instead of bothering about high standard of living. Simple living signifies that one should acquire or possess resources or products or assets to the minimum. One should not worry about acquiring material things as these are transitory in nature. Much of our time is wasted in planning and strategising about how to attain high standard of living. In this process one becomes anxious, frustrated and depressed. The goal of life is to become happy. Simple living and high thinking allows one to be happy. However, this is debatable. There are some who opine that simple living and high thinking are not desirable. In the pages of history we find examples of many great people who practised the principle of simple living and high thinking. In fact, the principle of simple living and high thinking is subjective. However, in view of the worries and anxieties of the present generation simple living and high thinking can be a good choice.
Mahatma Gandhi, when asked on an ideal way of living life, replied ‘Simple Living, High Thinking’. Simple living is the right choice to live. It reduces stress and leads to a happy life. It is a life worth emulating. Simple lifestyle helps in attaining personal peace of mind and relaxation, far from the chains of materialistic pleasures of modern life.
High thinking helps in reaching our destination without getting diverted from the main path. It also refers to rising above all the petty and mundane issues which hamper our mindset and set destination. It helps in the spiritual growth of one’s own self….
