We all have certain people we do not particularly like to be around, but what if everyone was forced to publically announce their sins by wearing a letter on their breast? Much like in The Scarlet Letter where Hester was forced to wear the scarlet letter “A” on hers. Would we avoid those who have sinned terribly in our book? I know I would stay away from those who committed such crimes as murder or child abuse, for those are evil sins in my opinion. Would you quickly grab ahold off your purse? In The Scarlet Letter, those who saw Hester’s scarlet letter “A” automatically treated her without respect. If I saw a thief walking towards me, then yes, I would approach him differently than I would a casual person. I would tense up and try to get past him as quickly as I could. However, in modern times, we do not know when we walk past such people, so if we shown, how would we react? I do not think anyone would simply go past a thief without a care, because we all know what thieves
