Sinkholes: A Fictional Narrative
Chapter Two - Sinkholes

“There you are! We’ve been waiting forever. We thought you both died or something!” Kourtney Karranza cried.

“We’re fine Kourt.” Kirsten laughed as she took off her backpack.

“Did you get any good pictures Bellamy?” Kourtney asked while Kirsten and Bellamy sat down.

“Not as many as I wanted to.” Bellamy shrugged. “Can you pass me that backpack?” He gestured towards a backpack on the left of Kourtney, and she passed it over. Bellamy began to search for the sandwiches that they made for lunch.

“Where is Griffin?” Kirsten asked.

“Hey guys come check this out!” Griffin Kingg yelled out.

“Where is he?” Bellamy looked around

Odds are she was going to die anyways, probably from impact when she eventually lands. So when she blacked out during the fall she didn’t expect to regain conscience, but she did when she hit the cold water. Kirsten’s lungs burned as she frantically swam upward towards the surface. Soon she resurfaced, and she was struck her surroundings. There was remains of what probably used to be a elevator but she wasn’t sure, they stopped using those after the Third World War. Above her was a large metal staircase that would have ended in the middle of the room, but only went down about two flights of stairs before it broke off. The rest appeared to be in a lake on other side of what seemed to be a cave. Kirsten began to quickly swim towards a wide strip of concrete. Once on shore she realized that it was longer than she originally thought it was. It was about fifty yards wide and a hundred yards long before it narrowed down into a tunnel, while the lake stretched as far as she could see on either side. All of the sudden she heard the faint sound of someone yelling her

Little did this small dog know what a huge impact she would have on helping soldiers to cope and to heal from battle wounds. Smoky was the first hospital therapy dog, and she came with high credentials approved by Dr. Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic.…

“The Doomed in Their Sinking” is more than a short piece of non-fiction by William Gass. William Gass talks about his parents and struggles to recognize the reasons behind suicide. Gass opens this essay, talking about his mother suicide but he is unaware of the reason why his mother did suicide? He not only talks deeply about suicide but also talks about what keeps us going, but questions is it love, beliefs, faith, hope, etc. Gass uses examples and reasons of suicide in this essay. “Definitions of suicide, like definitions of adultery, are invariably normative, and frequently do little more than reflect the shallowest social attitudes, embody the most parochial perspectives”(37-38). Gass uses similes, pathos, ethos, anaphora, and the way his essay written to justify suicide.…

Some things are bad when they happen once, but what about when they happen multiple times? I can definitely relate to this, because I have broken the same two teeth four times! Am I clumsy or is it just bad luck? Maybe riding a ride I was not tall enough for, playing chicken in the pool with younger kids, or not paying attention at volleyball practice and getting hit in the face was a bad idea, as they each led to the crunch of crunches and a pain that runs from my head to my toes.…

Cold, wet, exhausted, I screamed out hoping somebody was close, but the screams were probably hopeless over the thundering water. Klaus gave up the struggle to free himself and fell motionless pushed against the greened steel bars with the water overrunning his body, his eyes showing his fear before he went out of consciousness, still wide open and glazed over. I still needed to find a way out as I struggled to find grip on the moss topped concrete growing in the moist and dim space. Debri continued to flow down hitting Klaus and furthering his trapped state, I tried pulling him free but the power of the water overcame any efforts again. As I to started to realise what may become my final moments I looked back to all the great times in our 16 years together with Klaus but the guilt fogged my mind, why did I have to choose to do this? Why didn't I think this through?…

As European settlers moved westward across the continent, they gravitated toward these springs of warmth and vitality. In 1807, the first European to visit the Yellowstone area, John Colter, probably encountered hot springs, leading to the designation "Colter's Hell." Also in 1807, settlers founded the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas, where, in 1830, Asa Thompson charged one dollar each for the use of three spring-fed baths in a wooden tub, and the first known commercial use of geothermal energy occurred.…

“Floating” by Karen Brennan is a story about a woman who believes she can float or levitate. The authors target audience is people that have had depressing things occur in their lifetime, or even more specifically, women that have gone through miscarriages. The story is told through the perspective of a woman and I think that the author did this to show that if guilt and pain eat at a person this is what can happen. The author uses symbolism to get her point across. The story is told in the first person and no names mentioned in the story because it makes it more relatable to other people. The author portrays a woman who was pregnant, had a miscarriage and is depressed; she is also delusional and believes her baby is still alive and is her little secret, and lastly on some deep level she knows her baby is dead and feels a tremendous amount of guilt. The author shows that the miscarriage can be a metaphor for any situation in life: you lose something, or fail at something you cannot just give up, let the sadness overcome you, become delusional, or keep feeling guilty, one has to be able to move on and be happy, and live your life.…
