Eric church had hit the nail on the head about me and my family when he wrote “Sinners Like Me.” The whole song, from the guitar to the lyrics, just describes us. The lyrics tell a story about not just Eric, but all the people like him. It talks about getting caught with their first beer, losing a family member that meant everything to you, even starting a family of your own. I remember the first time I heard this song when it was released back in July of 2006. I was sitting in the cab of my dad’s truck on the way back from another of my football games, at the end of that song we both just looked at each other, smiled, then laughed. We both knew. We knew that the song we just heard had described our family so well it almost even scared us. So we put it out of our minds, headed home, and watched that old TV with the glass screen that’s still in our basement to this day. I miss my dad but, whenever I start to miss him to much I just put that song on my iPod and take a drive to remember my roots.
