Soft drink is a beverage that typically contains carbonated water, a sweetener and a flavoring. The sweetener may be sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice, sugar substitutes or some combination of these. Soft drinks may also contain caffeine, colorings, preservatives and other ingredients. There are many reasons why people drink soft drinks. The taste could be one thing that gets people addicted to drinking soft drinks, In fact that it is so good, that many people drink it. Other people drink soft drinks to quench their thirst. Soft drinks may be pretty inexpensive when compared with fruit juice and milk. However, there are also harmful effects to a person’s health. There are no nutritionally beneficial components in soft drinks. Soft drinks mostly consist of filtered water and refined sugars. Many people either forget or don't realize how many extra calories they consume in what they drink. Scientific studies have shown that soft drinks are directly related to weight gain. Experts have reasons to believe that overconsumption of fructose leads to an increase in blood pressure. This research aims to show the potential of mangosteen as one of the key components in making soft drink. Mangosteens are rich in vitamin C and contain about 12% RDA per 100g and aid in promoting red blood cells and prevent anemia and improve the flow of the blood. Scientific Research has revealed that Mangosteen contains a class of naturally occurring polyphenol compounds known as xanthones. It also contains high amounts of minerals and has potassium that provides protection against strokes and coronary heart diseases.
Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to determine whether mangosteen can be an effective soft drink ingredient, increasing its flavor and the benefits gained from it. What we are planning to do is getting the extract of the mangosteen and mixing it with other ingredients making a mangosteen soft drink.
