The first evening when the pact was discussed the host gives Gawain the venison that he has captured and Gawain kisses him since he has won one kiss from the lady. This relates to the first hit by the Green Knight because during the first pact Sir Gawain reveals the kiss with the Lady and so he does not get hit by the Green Knight but however is given a false blow. The second time Sir Gawain kisses the lord of the castle two kisses fulfilling the pact. So when it came time for the second blow again the Green Knight faked it leaving Sir Gawain untouched for his honesty. The third and final evening Sir Gawain receives the green girdle and does not give it to the lord of the castle during the talk of the pact.
