He was born into a family with 2 Jewish parents and he was also an only child. He worked as a stockbroker in London at the time.He got married to a woman named Grete and she was also the one who told everyone what he had done and about the kids he had saved and that's how his story got exposed. He had 3 kids but he also counts the kids he saved as his “children” so in a way he has 673 kids in all.He meets up with his “kids” every once in awhile he also owns 2 nursing homes but he said he would never wanna stay in one of his own. He is very modest and he doesn’t like to brag. He doesn’t think of himself as a hero he just feels like what he did was just the right thing to do. He finally died at 106 on July 1,.2015. as one.He even had a memorial service on May 19,2016.
He took a vacation for 2 weeks until he got a call from his best friend to come to Prague asap. The Nazi offered a Job to Nicholas Winton as the person to watch the kids and so of course he took it. The job gave him the ability to access the kids and their files which meant he could easily go into the files and take them and get them to safety. He also gave the parents application so if they wanted to give their kids a chance to live all they had to do is sign the papers.Sir Nicholas accepted as many applications as they could and saved the ones that he could but some he could not because he could only accept but so many kids. He asked other states for help but most declined. Britain said the only way they would accept the kids if Winton could find them a home or a sponsor. This means he also had to do a lot of research to see what type of busses go where. He had a Journal which told him everything he needed to know about the kids where he put them, their locations, and their names. He had never told anyone because he was never one to brag and he felt like what he did was not all that special..He always thought of them as his “children” even when they didn’t know.
He was a very good man.He did a lot of charity work like he helped mentally challenged people. He also opened up two nursing homes before he died.He ran for office but sadly lost.He always thought of others before himself. He helped people with down's syndrome. He presented awards like the 2013 Anna Politkovskaya award to Malala Yousafzai. He traveled to a lot of places like the Eiffel Tower in Paris on January 5.He received the order of The Little White Lion from Zakladni Skola Kunzak at Prague Castle on October 28,2014.He retired early and made a life in the country, traveling distance from London, shared with his wife Grete to he had been married to for 50 years.Sadly he died at the age of 106 on July 1,2015.
Sir Nicholas Winton was an honorable man. He always did what he felt was right. When he did what was right he does not think of himself as a hero he just felt like he did what was right and after that he just goes on with his life.He was knighted in the New year's honors list,at the age of 93.When he died he is still remembered as an honorable man and left a great legacy.
