Situational Irony In The Necklace

In The Necklace, situational irony is used near the conclusion of the story. The main character lost her friends diamond necklace, and she decided to replace it without her friend's knowledge. The main character and her husband had to pay and work off the debt of the replacement for ten years until the debt was at last fulfilled. At the close of the story, the main character admits to her friend everything that had happened. Instead of being upset, her friend laughed, saying that her necklace had been a fake and is worth nothing. They had done all of that work for no sensible reason at all. The situational irony in this story turned out to be quite humorous, but it still taught a brilliant lesson; people should not lie and instead be honest.
