Physical health: Physical health for me is my diabetes, taking my medications, weight gain or preferably loss and exercise. Also learning to live day to day with an illness and live a happy regular life. Physical health to me is also playing with my kids, working around the house, cleaning and taking care of myself.
Social health: Social health for me is daily life at work. Conversing with my co workers who I am having fun with, communicating with and enjoying the day with. It includes taking walks on my lunch with friends, socializing with everyone, enjoying movies.
Intellectual health: I believe that with my job intellectual health is a big piece of my work. Thinking clearly and effectively, making good solid decisions about another person’s life or children, following through on conversations, being able to analyze a situation and be objective
Environmental health: For me it’s about recycling and volunteering in gardens around town.
Emotional health: My mental health is a piece of my emotional health. For me staying grounded and balanced in life and work is crucial to my over all wellness. Balancing school, work and home life is important to me. Making sure that I am able to share my thoughts and feelings in an appropriate manner is important.
Spiritual health: For me, I am in recovery from drugs and a part of that is my spiritual side. It’s not about god or church but a way of life. It’s about my ability to connect with a higher power and be focused in my life. For me it comes down to being a good honest trustworthy person.
Part 2
In approximately 125 to 200 words, describe health and wellness in your own words using the ideas and concepts for each of the six dimensions of health.
My idea of health and wellness is about being true with yourself in your life when it comes to who you are as a person. Starting with physically, are you ok? How we feel on a day to day basis. Am I taking care of myself? It’s taking any medications that you need in order to survive, whether it is for your heart, cholesterol, diabetes, vitamins, depression, schizophrenia, Bi Polar or any other conditions. Do you exercise and eat right. I believe that the social and intellectual piece of wellness is important to daily living and being a pro social person. Caring about other people and showing your emotions can be challenging for some individuals, however the more you reach out the better you become at it. In decision making and using our good judgment it is important to have a clear head and analyze every situation correctly. I believe that taking care of our planet is a priority, if we don’t take care of it who will? I am big on recycling and I have started gardens and provide for the homeless. I think that once you can balance your life and never stop taking an honest look in the mirror you can always grow and learn.
