Our environment plays a major role in contributing to the causes of the cancer disease. Taking a closer look at skin cancer for instance, we see how much of the effects of the sun’s dangerous UV rays can harm our bodies.
What constitutes an environmental cause of cancer? When we talk about environmental causes of cancer, we are referring to the effects of environmental exposures or conditions that have direct or indirect effect on the origin or formation of the cancer disease in each individual’s body. Cancer develops over several years and has many causes. Several factors both inside and outside the body contributes to the development of cancer these days. Scientists refer to everything outside the body that interacts with humans as the environment. So when we talk about …show more content…
When a tumor is cancerous it is referred to as being malignant, which means they can spread into, or invade, nearby tissues. In addition, as these tumors grow, some cancer cells can break off and travel to other places in the body through the blood or our lymph system and form new tumors different from the original tumor it originated from. When a tumor is not cancerous it is referred to as benign tumors. Benign tumors do not spread or invade any other tissues. Benign tumors can sometimes however, be quite large. When removed, they usually don’t grow back, whereas as far as malignant tumors are concern, they sometimes do. Unlike most benign tumors elsewhere in our bodies, benign tumors in the brain however, can be life threatening. There are many types of cancer and they include breast cancer, lung cancer, prostrate cancer, colon cancer, rectum cancer and many more. However, for the purpose of this research paper, my focus and discussion will be limited to skin cancer and the specifics of the environmental danger that the sun’s UV rays can cause on the human skin, leading to skin
