How would you describe the culture of the Sarto group?
• The Sarto group seems to have a healthy and friendly atmosphere among its members, shown by their attitudes with one another 
e.g. week-end together, shared lunch
• Their ideal of efficiency goes beyond the quantitative and focuses on the qualitative, « stressing high standards » also for inventiveness.
• Helping one another is a « prized trait », and this includes help also from a personal point of view.  helping one another with the punching out routine
• Even though they have this kind of routine their work ethic seems to be strong (shown by the qualitative approach to results and refusing to associate with less ethical members such as Herman)  e.g. Tony arriving always half an hour early

How has it evolved? What impact has it had on the effectiveness of the group?
• The culture seems to revolve around the figure of Tony, the
« group leader ».
• The culture seems to be costant and without much evolution.
Exclusion is the only factor affecting the dynamics of the group  e.g. exclusion of Pearson
• The group’s culture seems to have a positive impact on the effectiveness of the group; their reputation is considered good
( shown by the second biggest group, Clark’s, wanting to be associated to it in social affairs)
• Their focus on quality and inventiveness could also improve effectiveness from a production’s point of view  quality is reason #1 for buyers to buy Slade’s product.

What are the determinants of the social status and influence within the plating department?
The Sarto Group
• Ability to work with inventiveness
• Capability to work above level  not impressed by below level output
• Willingness to help one another (profesionally and personally)
• Not being an « anti » character  like Herman Schell
The Clark Group
• Imitators of the Sarto group; figures like Tony impress

    Reciprocity was understood all the way back when the earliest white settlers established homes in New England. However, over time, the meaning of the word reciprocity has been lost. Furthermore, many modern Westerners such as us are not truly aware of what the purpose of gift giving is. For instance, we tend to use gifts to maintain long-term relationships and also because we feel a mutual obligation. By not fully understanding the meaning of reciprocity, we also run the risk of being misinterpreted and even causing harm.     A few years before this, many incidents occurred which prodded colonists to rise up against the tyrannical British Parliament, one of such events was the event known as the Boston Massacre. This event occurred on March 5, 1770. A squad of British soldiers, come to support a sentry who was being pressed by a heckling, snowballing crowd, let loose a volley of shots. Three persons were killed immediately and two died later of their wounds. The British officer in charge, Capt. Thomas Preston was arrested for manslaughter, along with eight of his men; all were later acquitted. This horrendous event assisted in unifying the colonies with one goal: to end the tyrannical reign of the British Parliament and its violation of basic, essential human rights that no man, government, or group had any right to infringe upon. The Boston Massacre sparked the colonists’ desire for independence for all Americans. This desire was the main factor in the birth of the American Revolutionary War, and subsequently the United States of America.…

    Many different factors have been shown to influence people’s willingness to help others. The motive behind certain type of help can be certain rewards for helping however other types of help do not always appear to have a clear motive. This was noted by Comte (1875 as cited in Batson & Shaw 1991, Baumaister & Bushman, 2011) who studied the question of helping others, philosophically and suggests that there are two key types of help displayed by people. He describes these as either Egoistic Helping (EH) or Altruistic Helping (AH). The former refers to the type of help where an individual is clearly aware of a reward for performing the help, such as can be seen in some volunteers workers, whose clear reward is experience and recommendations. The latter however refers to situations where an individual’s willingness to help is unaided by any conscious reward. AH behaviour can be seen in such examples as helping a broken down stranger fix a car tyre on a road (Pomzal & Clore, 1973 as cited in Baumaister & Bushman, 2011). The factors influencing the latter type of help are the ones mainly considered throughout this essay. However these factors have a varied effect on different people, this variation can be based on gender, age and other individual differences.…
