Cenmnt and Concrete Sectional Committee, CED 2

FOREWORD This Indian Standard ( Fourth Revision ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 30 October 1989, after the draft finalized by the Cement .and Concrete Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil Engineering Division Council. Portland slag cement is obtained by mixing, Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag in suitable proportions and grinding the mixture to get a thorough and intimate mix between the constituents. It may also be manufactured by separately grinding Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag and then mixing them intimately.. The resultant product is a cement which has physical properties similar to those of ordinary Portland cement. In addition, it has low heat of hydration and is relatively better resistant to soils and water containing excessive amounts of sulphater of alkali metals. alumina and iron, as well- as to acidic waters, and can, therefore, be ‘used for marine works with advantage. The manufacture of Portland slag cement has been developed primarily to utilize blastfumace slag, a waste product from blastfurnaces. The development of manufacture of this type of cement will considerably increase the total output of cement production in the country and will, in addition, provide a profitable use for an otherwise waste product. The slags obtained from other types of furnaces, but having identical properties as those of granulated blastfumace slag conforming to this standard, may also be used for manufacture of Portland slag cement. This standard was first published in lb53 and subsequently revised in 1962,1967 and 1976. This fourth revision incorporates

“The People of Sand and Slag” by Paolo Bacigalupi is a story set in the far future about how humans can adapt to survive in the most outrageous conditions. The concept of alienation plays a major role in the story itself. It is very difficult for the audience to be able to comprehend what the characters feel and go through. In “The People of Sand and Slag”, the world is run by corporations who hire their own military in order to defend their own base. One of these corporations has three guards that live in Montana. “The People of Sand and Slag”, focus on the lives of these three guards. The guards are hired in order to watch over a huge mining operation. In order to protect the operation to the best of their abilities, a new technology was developed called weeviltech. Weeviltech allows the guards to obtain nutrition from anything seen in front of them. For example, meals include shine, mine tailings, and even dirt. They also do not need to breathe oxygen in order to survive. Another unique aspect of weeviltech is that they can regrow any parts of their bodies and also implant artificial parts into their bodies. “After diner we sat around and sharpened Lisa's skin, implanting blades along her limbs so that she was like a razor from all…

Table 3 shows the flow value of the mixtures containing BA. It shows that flow value for the BA blended cement mortars were decreased with increase in the percentage of BA. The control mix (BAM 0) has a flow value of 147 mm [30]. The flow value of mixes BAM 5, BAM 10, BAM 15, BAM 20, BAM 25, and BAM 30 shows decrease of 146, 146, 145, 144, 143, and 142 mm respectively. BA requires more water for proper consistency when compared to that of ordinary Portland cement due to irregular shape with rough surfaces, high porous texture and absorptive in nature [5]. Increase in water demand of BA, decreases the flow value and resulted in poor workability. W/C ratio was kept same as 0.5 for all mixes. The flow value of BAM 30 reduced to 3.4 % due to…

Cement production has always remained a concern for global warming due to the high energy requirements and the release of significant amounts of CO2. Besides, ACC has embarked upon an ambitious project for substituting five per cent of its annual coal requirement of about five million tons over the next three years with waste generated by cities and industries. It has already replaced two per cent of its coal requirement with all types of wastes.…

In an abbreviated notation differing from the normal atomic symbols, these compounds are designated as C3S, C2S, C3A, and C4AF, where C stands for calcium oxide (lime), S for silica, A for alumina, and F for iron oxide. Small amounts of uncombined lime and magnesia also are present, along with alkalies and minor amounts of other elements…
