When Kevin Bales says “slavery is like someone is mugging you and stealing your life.” it is so true. Child slaves usually don’t get to do what other children do, like get an education, spend time with friends, or get respected. They have to miss out on all of those aspects of life. According to “A Child Slave in California” Shyima Hall worked about 18 hours a day. And she got no respect for what she did. The Ibrahims called her shagala which means servant and “stupid.” The Ibrahims took her away from her friends, family, home, respect, etc. Without that they can control you, they took away Shyima Hall’s life, and made her work.
