They had to make decisions that would risk our union breaking apart. But they did it, and even though our union did split up, they came back together again. The war was over, we won, slavery was abolished, our unions were together, and though people still didn't give all rights to the African Americans we still continued to fight for their rights. The forefathers have stood strong through all they never gave up, they had hope in our country, and they didn't stop until our union was back together and slavery was abolished. The soldiers fought for our country, no matter what. Through the snow and rain they continued and didn't stop. They had barely any food, horrible medical care, diseases. They slept on hard grounds that sometimes were even muddy but still continued. The soldiers had to go through more than that, diseases spread rapidly and there was very little that anyone could do, due to the lack of medicine to cure them. Their hospitals were not really even hospitals they were just tables and you lay on them. If you had something wrong with your foot and they needed to cut it off or disease would spread they had no way of doing that, but using a saw, no pain pills nothing to make it stop hurting. Soldiers had little food and were starving, through the cold winters they had one blanket and if they were lucky a small pillow but they stood tall. Soldiers also had to leave their families and this was called a draft, which meant they were required by law to go and fight for the war. They didn’t want to leave their families, of course, and they did not want to fight either, but though they were sad they continued to fight in honor of keeping them safe.
