When you are falling asleep your body relaxes, and eventually your body enters into complete sleep, usually you do not become aware of the transition between awake and asleep, but if you notice this change, you realize you won’t be able to speak or move.
What happens with postdormital sleep paralysis?
During this stage, two things are happening; your body alternates from REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non rapid eye movement). When the rapid eye movement is happening, dreams occur, but the rest of the body remains relaxed. So the body muscles are off in the REM sleep. If you become aware before the REM cycle is finish, the paralysis occurs.
