People learn many lessons throughout their lives, and they often learn them through reading. Most books have many themes. A themes is like a lessons. You see in The boy who cried wolf not to lie which is the theme. You could learned two themes in the book Small as an elephant, by Jennifer R. Jacobson, realistic fiction. The book is about a young boy named Jack. Jack has to be very independent due to the fact that his mom is not stable, and his dad is no longer in his life. So when Jack and his mother plan to go on a camping trip it does not go so well. The destination Maine, is not Jack’s home turf. Therefore, when Jack's mom turns this trip into a manhunt for Jack it is harder for him to find his mother. Throughout this time Jack learns two lessons. He learns that he needs to stay hopeful and needs to learn that it is ok to let people help you. …show more content…
This is shown when Jack’s grandma shows up at the zoo and says “I want to help you jack and your mother” (187). This is very important because it shows that even when you lose your hope you can always regain it. Jack lost his hope of finding his mother, and having his life back. In this quote Jack’s grandmother helps him find it again. Another time when Jack is starting to lose his hope was before Jack's grandmother says “Oh no! Your mother wasn't in her right mind. She needs a place where they can help her get better. Get better and stay better for you” (267). This is very important because it enlightens Jack which makes his hopes grow. It is very hard for Jack to keep his hopes up, but whenever he loses sight of them he always finds the again. You must never lose your hope as it can get you through the hardest times in
