Application Process The application process was simple and easy. Once I chose a position to apply for I clicked on the Apply Here link to begin the application process. On the first page of the application Smithfield packing had a disclosure at the top of the screen stating that they are an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, disability, protected veteran status or any other legally protected status (Smithfield 2016). The last screen was the disclosure statement and signature page. Selection Tools
The Selection Tool that is being used by Smithfield Packing is screening.
Screening is when an organization looks through applications and resumes determining if the candidate meets the qualifications for the available position (Ullah 2010). Smithfield Packing career website states that once they make the determination that the applicant meets the basic qualification for the position the individual will be contacted for a phone interview. Phone interviews are another selection tool utilized by Smithfield Packing. Based on an article in the Wall Street Journal, phone interviews are cost effective and a productive way to see if the applicant qualifies to go onto the next phase of the hiring process. Although the site stated that the candidate who is selected for the position will have to go through a Drug Screening, the site did not say anything about a Criminal Background Check. Drug Screenings are another selection tool that is utilized by Smithfield Packing.
Likes and Dislikes of Smithfield Packing Application Process The application was fairly easy. I really liked the fact the application process was quick. I have been on job sites, such as Sear Corporation, where the online application process took at least 30 minutes to complete. The site provided information on who to contact to check the status of the application and it informed me that if I haven’t heard anything within 30 days from the date of my application, I did not get considered for the position. I really didn’t have any dislikes of the online application process for Smithfield Packing.
Conclusion
Smithfield Packing has a quick and easy online application process. The company offers positions all across the globe and utilizes the same Career Website Link to consider applicants for available positions within the company. Although the site clearly stated that they utilize Screening, Phone Interview, and Drug Screenings. I am sure the company also uses Managerial Interviewing, Skills Assessments and Background Screenings to consider applicants as well.
