Banning smoking in public places isn’t just a question of taking away one group’s freedom for the benefit of another; it is something that is in the interest of people as a whole. It comes down to a decision between the healths of a whole nation versus the freedom of a minority. By allowing smoking in public places it is the freedom of non-smokers that is being restricted. We choose not to smoke but by going out into a public space such as a bar, restaurant, and also the park, which cause pollution of the air such as tar, nitrogen dioxide, particles and black smoke. It also causes destruction to our children because they tend to copy what they observe from us.
In addition, the effects of air pollution from smoking cause’s smokers and non-smokers to have symptoms such as coughing, headaches, soar throat, and sneezing. These are small symptoms that will occur if you’re a smoker or you’re around someone who smokes. It also can turn into major health issues such as lung cancer, tuberculosis and COPD for individuals. It was found that the levels of passive smoking and air pollution had independent effects on respiratory symptoms. Air pollution exposure induces short-term inflammatory changes that may determine hyperhomocysteinemia, particularly in the presence of a preexisting proinflammatory status such as that found in cigarette smokers.
People should not be allowed to smoke where there are children, for example, such as parks, family restaurants, hospitals, schools, etc. Because children often copy what they see adults do, they believe doing everything like adults will make them appear mature. Even though most adults smoke believing there alleviating stress or its helping them to lose weight, but children don’t know what adults are thinking while smoking and children will start to copy the adults to express their emotions. Smoking is a bad influence for our children, so I hope that all adults stop smoking in front of the children because they are our next generation to come up thinking a smart way to go about living their lives and it’s not smoking. For the ones that don’t smoke but hang with friends that smoke, its causing them the harm of second hand smoke, which affects there health as well.
Smoking not only harms the smoker, but also those who are nearby. Therefore, smoking should be banned in public places. Second-hand smoking is implicated in a number of serious health problems: nasal congestion, ear infections, frequent upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, sinusitis, asthma, wheezing, allergies and lung cancer. Some people will argue that even smoking in there vehicles on any parking lot should not be under such laws. This is not the matter of private or public, but a matter of protecting the young who cannot protect themselves. We have a car seat law to keep the children safe, why not a law to protect them from another very serious danger, second-hand smoke. In addition, we already breathe in enough pollution of the air, but by adding other particles to the air are not helping our communities at all with the health of the elderly, younger adults and the children. The numbers of the world today have tripled of deaths from blood clots on the lungs, emphysema, and asthma, that I lost my step-mother to because she also worked in a school environment with a lot of dust and adults that smoked a lot. There is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke. Scientific evidence verifies that cigarette smoking pervasively damages the body, causes early death, and costs billions of dollars annually. In medical care for smokers, and poses serious health risks to nonsmokers exposed to secondhand smoke.
