Cigarette Smoking Should Be Banned Do you think that cigarette smoking should be banned? What if you lost a loved one because they smoked or was around people that smoke? Would you want your kids to smoke?
These are some questions that should come to mind when you think about smoking. Nothing good comes out of smoking. It uses alot of money that you could be using on a trip with the family or stuff you need. Would you take the risk to smoke?
According to a debate 79% of people say yes it should be banned and 21% of people say no it shouldn't. (“Should cigarette smoking be banned?”) Who all do you think smokes? Each day more than 3,200 people under 18 smoke their first cigarette. Approximately 2,100 youth and young adults become daily smokers every day. 1 out of 5 of all the people in the world smoke. 9 out of 10 of them start before the age of 18 (betobaccofree.hhs.gov). On average a pack of cigarettes cost $5.51 if you smoke a pack a day your spending $2,011.15.
Why is smoking harmful to smokers? There is so many problems you can have from smoking. More then 16 million poeple already have at least one disease from smoking. 8.6 million people live with a serious illness caused by smoking. Also more then 20 million americans have died becuase of smoking. 2.5 million die due to secondhand smoke. On average smokers die 13 to 14 years earlier then nonsmokers. You can have many respiratory health problems. 9 out of 10 lung cancers are caused by smoking. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men(90%) and women(80%). Smoking slows down the lung development of teens. 8 out of 10 COPD deaths are a result of smoking and there is no cure for COPD.
Women smokers are 40 times more likly to get COPD then men (betobaccofree.hhs.gov).

Smoking also increases the chance to get TB. More then 11% of students have asthma caused by smoking. It can also give you many kinds of cancer including cancers of the throat, mouth, nasal cavity, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, and cervixs, as well as myelord leukemia. It can also affect your fertility, 18 million males over the age of 20 suffer from
ED(erectile dysfunction). Smoking is the cause of ED, as cigarettes smoke alters blood flow necesary for an erection. Also did you know that smokers are 30% to 40% more likely to get type 2 diabetes.
Smoking can be very harmful to the people thats around you to. 8.8 million people are exposed to second hand smoke. 54% of children aged 3­11 hsas been exposed to secondhand smoking on a daily bases. Each year estimated 3,000 nonsmokers die from seconhand smoke
(betobaccofree.hhs.gov). Secondhand smoke can also rasie a nonsmokers chance of geeting heart disease by 25% to 30%, and lung diesease by 20% to 30%. Every year more then 33,000 nonsmokers die in the us from cornary heart diesaese caused by secondhand smoke. Smoking harms your children, 5.6 million children alive today will utmatley die early from their parnets smoking. Thats 1 out of 13 kids. It can also affect your babies, more then 400,000 babies born in the us every year is exposed to chemicals in cigarettes before being born. babies who breath in the secondhand smoke is more likly to get sick more offten and suffer from bronchitis, pneumoin, ear infections, more frequent asthma attacks, respintory issuses and an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrom (SIDS).(betobaccofree.hhs.gov).
