Smoking Should Be Banned in Public
Smoking is a expensive habit and it should be banned. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects outweigh the positive. It is a hazard for both smokers and non - smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Cigarettes are also addictive because of the nicotine they contain. Smoking should be outlawed due to the hazard it causes to the smokers and non - smokers, the negative aspects and dangerous consequences it causes, and also the harmful things it does to the environment. There are three types of smokers, active, passive and chain smokers. The person who smokes is active and the other who are near to him and inhale the smoke are passive smokers. Both are equally affected by the ill effects of smoking. Smokers and non-smokers meet at many places such as buses, hotels, bars, etc. So, considering the bad effects of smoking on an individual’s health and environment, it should be banned in public places. A person who wants to smoke can do so by keeping himself in isolation. Now on the other hand, a chain smoker is the worst sufferer. A chain smoker is someone who cant just smoke one cigarette in one sitting. When they smoke their first cigarette, they have to smoke all of it and then after that cigarette they have to smoke another one. This type of smoker is truly addicted to cigarettes. Smoking has its negative effects such as addiction. A smoking addiction means a person has formed an uncontrollable dependance on cigarettes. Everyone knows that smoking is harmful and addictive it is. Seeing other people may be tempting but think of the consequences in the long run. Plenty of things can happen such as a heart attack, stroke, heartburn, peptic ulcers, Crohn’s disease even death. The smoking of cigarette is glamorized through advertisements. More and more young boys and girls are attracted by this. Even the statutory warning on the cigarette packets does not stop them. However. Smoking is not a good habit. Smokers not only develop wrinkles and yellow teeth., they also lose bone density. Smokers tend to be less active than non - smokers because smoking affects the lungs. The consequences of smoking may seem very far off, but health problems aren’t the only things hazardous in smoking. Nicotine in cigarettes can affect a person’s body quickly such bad skin and breath. Smoking causes many environment issues. It is fairly obvious that smoking pollutes the air and quite often the ground. The pollution caused by cigarettes does not stop in our bodies or the air, it also affects the land we live on and the water we drink. Everyday millions of cigarette butts are disguarded onto the ground. Cigarette butts end up in rivers and lakes where fish and animals eat them by mistake and quite often die. Cigarette butts are a major fire hazard in dry weather, and it is extremely harmful to the environment. One of the most impacting aspect of cigarettes is producing them. These crops are often sprayed with harmful chemicals. Energy and water is wasted in manufacturing cigarettes that need to be considered. Its very clear that manufacturing cigarettes has a big strain on the environment Trees take a lot just to produce and package cigarettes. Cigarette manufacturing uses four miles of paper an hour just for rolling and packaging cigarettes. Trees could be filtering out the pollutants instead of adding new ones. The tobacco industry are often trying to have more trees planted. But since they uses trees to dry the tobacco and for rolling and packaging it is probably not a concern for the environment. They don’t care about polluting bodies so why would they care about polluting the environment. Smoking should be banned once and for all in all public areas. Smoking negatively affects our society through environmental problems, economic problems, health risks to others, and especially health problems. There is no logical reason to smoke cigarettes and doing so does not benefit anyone in any way. Smoking in public is the same as driving drunk because both endanger the lives of innocent people who choose not to engage in the reckless behavior. The only difference is that with smoking the affects are not visible immediately because it has long term affects. Banning smoking in public will ultimately increase the quality of life and in turn will better society as a whole.

There are many reasons why smoking in public should be banned. The three main reasons to ban smoking in public are because of the health risks, offensive smell, and environmental risks that are the cause of cigarette smoke. Secondhand smoke is smoke from a cigarette, cigar, or pipe that is involuntarily inhaled, especially by non-smokers (The American Heritage Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, n.d.). In many public places smoking is allowed and is not fair because non-smokers are exposed to chemicals that can harm them internally and externally. Children for example, are chronic victims of secondhand smoke. The inhalation of cigarette smoke that can harm people nearby is called passive smoking (Pros Vs. Cons, 2007, p.1). Also cigarette smoke can make non-smokers agitated by the smell of cigarette smoke, which is not very pleasant. Also the environment is tainted by the hazardous chemicals, which can cause permanent scars on the earth. For the most part, smoking in public should be banned to help decreases its negative affects.…

It has become common knowledge that smoking is bad for people’s health, nonetheless people continue to smoke. To be honest, that is fine. If people want to endanger themselves by smoking then I wish them a swift and peaceful end (though most smokers die a slow and agonizing death). What is not acceptable is the effect that smoke has on non-smokers who have almost no way of getting away from smoke unless they want to stay in their house. Smokers affect everyone around them for the worse. Smoking should be restricted or banned from all public places because the health of non-smokers should not be jeopardized by secondhand smoke.…

People smoke cigarettes because of popularity. According to Susan Dominus who wrote “Teen Smoking: An Overview” teens think smoking looks sexy or cool or hope they will help them lose weight or make them feel less dependent on their parents. This is true, there are many teens out there that think if they have a cigarette in their hand it will get their crush to like them or maybe they will fit in. At that moment it may seem okay, but no one actually thinks of the consequences later on. Most heavy smokers that are around today started when they were teens because of those reasons.…
