In every story the characters are the ones who captivate a reader. In Zusak’s novel “The book thief” he makes an effort to create characters with enough personality that they didn’t even need to be described. There are many attitudes and reactions that characters have trough out the book, and they give away who they really are. The characters seem so real that at a certain point, the reader could forget the characters are not real. One example of that “reality confusion” is how Death portraits himself as a human.…

Larceny is “the unlawful taking of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it permanently”, defined by the Merriam - Webster dictionary. There are different levels of larceny. There is Grand Larceny which is usually defined as theft of a more significant amount of property. In the United States it is often defined as items or currency that is valued as $400 or more. In New York grand larceny applies to amounts of $1000 or more. Grand larceny is classified as a Class A felony. To bluntly say it, larceny is stealing from others. No matter what the motives or reasons behind stealing are, it is still wrong. I imagine there are a million of motives for someone to convince himself or herself that it is worth the risk to steal something. Some other people might also not have the conscience to feel wrong for stealing. A large part of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming when they steal. Most people don’t care and only worry about their problems. Even after being caught someone might only feel bad for himself or herself.…

London 's streets were bustling with excitement, but where the rich shopped and socialized there were always criminals ready to pounce. Most of the crimes were committed by unemployed poor people called 'rogues. ' These people were concentrated in certain areas and were usually up to no good. Two very common types of thieves on the streets were pickpockets and cutpurses. Pickpockets slyly grabbed purses and watches from their victims; they, then, ran from the scene of the crime. Cutpurses carried knives and ran by women, slashing the straps on their purses and collecting whatever fell out.…

Shoplifting is a major problem in today life. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks he's getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood.

In this essay I'm going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After I've been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone. The stores are tying to crack down on shoplifters by making the punishments as strict as possible.

Shoplifting effects the community in a big way. The stores get about three cents per every dollar purchased for an item. So if you figure that they don't make a whole lot of money out of profit. Every shoplifter that takes a product also is taking the product, which costs money by the store so that is also a set back and puts them more in dept. Some stores might even closed down because of shoplifters making the store go bankrupt.

The stores usually raise there prices and then causes more shoplifting, but the people that don't shoplift just end up having to pay more for the product or else go somewhere else to shop. If the customer goes to a different store because of the rising prices the store will also lose business therefore could cause them to go out of business if enough customers leave.

From shoplifting I've found out what happens to the stores and the people that keep trying to get five finger discount on products. I believe many of those robberies are committed by people who feel the need to own something they can’t afford. The feeling of being in need can also provoke them to steal. Even the people, who commit the crime must feel like their adrenaline rushes and deep down feel the sense of guilt, but they still do it for necessity. Once they get away with it they might feel unstoppable, which means they might eventually end up committing another robbery.…
