The reader will see the story through the character’s eyes and how she feels about each flashback, but also how she reflects on how the other characters may have been feeling about the same situation. This is important because it helps the reader connect and also form an opinion on how to feel and relate to the main character. Beattie also uses an overall theme in her story to also teach a lesson to her reader. Which is also where the reader must use interpretation, interpreting the theme.
