Final Essay Snow White: Then and Now Kids across the world have all admired the stories of Walt Disney. The multiple full-length featured films were conveniently put on VHS and DVD for the young ones to watch the stories whenever he or she pleases. Sounds great right? What people don’t realize is that there are more to these tales than what one sees at a glance. The majority of these movies have strong undertones and your children are watching these films over and over again. What are children really watching? In the bible story “Adam and Eve”, Eve is tempted by a snake (which represents evil) to eat the apple and ultimately suffers from the decision. This is incredibly similar to Snow White’s story. Innocent and defenseless Snow White is tempted by a source of evil to eat an apple. When she does, Snow White faces a grim result. Snow White’s misfortune however leads to rebirth. One more apparent comparison of the story of Snow White and religion is the number seven. Yes, in the movie there are seven dwarfs. However, they also live over seven mountains. In the Book of Revelations there are seven mountains as well. The prime number is duly noted religiously. Also, all of the seven deadly sins are revealed in Snow White. How will this influence the minds of young viewers? What people will take away from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a positive idea of Christianity. Although the story of Snow White is based off of the German Grimm’s Fairy Tale. The Walt Disney version that has just been studied in detail was the first Disney Feature Film and came from America. In America in 1937, there was not much religious diversity compared to today. Obviously the producers of the movie will promote Christian views. In fact, another version of the story (which is extremely similar) has Snow White’s life being saved because people were able to figure out how to heal her due to them seeing the beauty during her Christian burial. If we were to compare the religious background of Snow White to a much more modern Disney Film such as The Princess and the Frog (2009) there would be a huge
