Snowball In Animal Farm By George Orwell
In the satiric novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the character Snowball represents Leon Trotsky, who helps the animals gain control of their freedom. However, the Utopia that they fought so hard for was not the paradise that they had wished for; the animals are manipulated by the pigs and find that they are no better off than when they had started. Snowball is manipulative, disloyal, and destructive and he can easily get people to do what he asks of them. Without Snowball, Animal Farm might have had a better survival system than death to those who have had contact with Snowball or who were overall useless to Napoleon.
Snowball has many different character traits, one of which is being manipulative. This shows when, “The sheep confessed to having urinated in the drinking pool- urged to do so, so she said, by Snowball- and two other sheep confessed to having murdered an old ram, an especially devoted follower of Napoleon (26).” This shows that the animals trusted Snowball enough to allow him to manipulate them into doing these startling things. Furthermore, this also illustrates that Snowball took their trust

Some words that prove this are, “Snowball was Jones's agent from the very beginning- yes and from long before the rebellion was ever thought(25),” Squealer had told the animals. Squealer was trying to make Snowball appear to be the enemy that he might have actually been. This also illustrates that Snowball’s actions are not as true as they emerge to be. During the execution, “The four pigs.. added that Snowball had privately admitted to them that he had been Jones’s secret agent for years past(26).” This shows that what Squealer has told the animals was not false at all. Snowball was never loyal to the animals, he was only ever dedicated to Farmer Jones and himself. Therefore, being disloyal was a very strong attribute because it might have been the first feature that lead to him being the

Squealer has all the animals believing propaganda, and it brainwashed them, and made them feel as if nothing is wrong on the farm. The number one reason why Squealer is now also corrupt is because of Napoleon’s self corruption. Squealer lies for Napoleon, as he said, “Snowball has sold himself to Frederick of Pinchfield Farm…”, (Orwell 118). Squealer had no choice, but to let Napoleon control him, otherwise he would have been harmed or killed, and no good would have come out of it.…

As soon as I started reading the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell I knew Snowball was gonna be my favorite character. Snowball had everything, he was brave, encouraging, and admirable. Then one day everything changed when something went horribly wrong, Snowball was blamed for it. The time the windmill was destroyed for the very first time it clearly states in the passage the blaming “Do you know who is responsible for this? Do you know the enemy who has come in the night and overthrown our windmill? SNOWBALL” (Orwell 51). Snowball had spectacular ideas and was just a startling leader overall, everything was amazing, but suddenly it all went down hill. Napoleon was envious of Snowball, he had so much rage towards him, he ordered the enormous…

Additionally he also uses Ethos to get his point across. When it was discovered that Snowball was coming to the farm at night, Squealer had to make sure they thought it was him. “Snowball was in league with Jones from the very start!”(55). This is a good example because even though some of the animals disagree, Squealer continues to push the idea. By this he shows that even with doubt, he makes their disagreements dissolve away. During the…

At the beginning of chapter 5, in animal farm, Snowball is presented as popular with the animals, and skilled at raising support for himself among them. Orwell writes that ‘Snowball often won over the majority by his brilliant speeches’. This shows that he is both good with words and persuasive, as well as liked. Later, when he is banished, the animals are shown as wary, and one even protests against it saying that ‘he fought bravely at the battle of the cowshed’. By demonstrating that the animals were willing to stand up against his exile, even though they are now terrified of Napoleon, Orwell has made it obvious that they did like and support him, and that they are upset and worried that he is gone. This demonstrates a similarity to Trotsky, from the Russian revolution, as he was popular and well known among the Russian population, who saw him as an inspirational leader. But Trotsky was also then banished, just as Snowball is.…

It's quit clear that Snowball knows what he is doing – he knows how things work and if they're not working, he knows how to make it work. The reader learns that Snowball is quick on his feet and he definitely possess the qualities of a good leader – if only he weren't such a corrupt leader. This also leads to an effect of distrust because the reader sees that it is possible to have good qualities but if you're like Snowball, someone who is rotten at the core, it is quite easy to push your own agenda and manipulate your followers into thinking that it's their…

In Animal Farm, Squealer used verbal manipulation through the power of speech to influence the animals. Through persuasive personal face to face talks, Orwell explained that Squealer could "...turn black into white", implying that he could turn a lie into a truth (Orwell 7). Orwell writes that Squealer was a “brilliant talker” and “very persuasive” (Orwell 7). Squealer is able to use his words to make Snowball seem doubtful and useless in his position as a leader. The Pravda, on the other hand, manipulated people through the power of written words.…

To begin, Snowball shows efficiency in many ways. For example, “The stupidest questions of all were asked by Mollie, the white mare. The very first question she asked Snowball was: ‘Will there still be sugar after the Rebellion? ’No,’ said Snowball firmly. ‘We have no means of making sugar on this farm. Besides, you do not need sugar. You will have all the oats and hay you want.’(Orwell28). This quote shows that he knows these limits of the farm and will try to provide for the farm without spending a lot of money and resources. Another example is a quote from chapter 3. “‘Now, comrades,’ cried Snowball, throwing down the paint-brush, ‘to the hayfield! Let us make it a point of honor to get in the harvest more quickly than Jones and his men could do.’(Orwell18)" This quote shows that he is ready to start having the members of the farm perform in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort. If you like an efficient leader, Snowball is the better choice.…
