The common name of my species is snowy owl the scientific name is (Nyctea scandiaca.) The snowy owl is threatened because of collisions with automobiles, utility lines and gunshot wounds. These birds are being i killed for their eyes and feet, which are traded in Asian markets. There are about 290,000 snowy owls in the world.
The snowy owl lives in Northern most Canada, Alaska, polar, tundra, grasslands, or frozen lakes. Snowy owls are very territorial. Males defend a territory during the breeding season. When food is scarce, males defend bigger territories. During winter, females defend their territories. Snowy owls are also migratory. Rather than migrating to the west they migrate north in the spring and south in the fall, snowy owls migrate when food is scarce. Their migrations are very hard to predict. Snowy owls affect the populations of animals that they eat. Snowy owls compete a lot of other species for lemmings and other small animals. Sometimes nesting next to a snowy owl can help. For example, greater and lesser snow geese that nest near snowy owls can be protected from some of the bigger animals. One thing that primarily keeps this owl alive is lemmings because it is one of their main diets. The female owl usually lays 3 to 11 eggs, but the can lay up to 16.
The snow owl was a distinctive white camouflage. They are usually found in the snow so they camouflage white so they are harder to be seen by predators. Height: Up to 27 in. - it is one of the biggest owls. The snow owl’s wing span is usually between 45-60 inches long. These owls also have furry feet to keep body heat because the temperature in the artic is very cold. When it’s not winter this bird can also have brownish dots and stripes but when it is winter they are purely just white. It takes about a month for a baby snow owl to hatch.
My species is endangered due to human accessories. Some
