God said, "I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board." So God made a farmer.
"I need somebody with arms strong enough to rustle a calf and yet gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild. Somebody to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry, have to wait lunch until his wife's done feeding visiting ladies and tell the ladies to be sure and come back real soon -- and mean it." So God made a farmer.
God said, "I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt. And watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say, 'Maybe next year.' I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. And who, planting time and harvest season, will finish his forty-hour week by Tuesday noon, then, pain'n from 'tractor back,' put in another seventy-two hours." So God made a farmer.
God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop in mid-field and race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor's place. So God made a farmer.
God said, "I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bails, yet gentle enough to tame lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadow lark. It had to be somebody who'd plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk and replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week's work with a five-mile drive to church.
"Somebody who'd bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to spend his life 'doing what dad does.'" So God made a farmer.

Have you ever thought of where your produce comes from? If you have, then you’ve probably thought of the supermarket, or more logically, a farm. In a barnyard they have all these different kinds of animals; cattle, pigs, chickens, maybe even horses. The farmer always takes good care of his animals, but what about all the other stuff, like his crops? Crops are one of the most important things on a farm. They need to be tended and cared for, like the animals, but they also need to be harvested. Back then in the 1800s, it wasn’t as easy as it is now. Farmers had to harvest their crops by hand, and it took some back-breaking work to do it. They needed something or someone to help generate a tool to make collecting crops easier, and with his skill and determination, that’s exactly what Cyrus Hall McCormick did.…

The food’s first transformative role was the basis for the formation of entire civilizations. As Standage points out, the taking in of agriculture enabled new settled lifestyle and put mankind on the path to the modern world. However, he then is quick to mention that although the staple crops aided the formation of the early civilizations, barley and the wheat in the east, rice and millet in Russia, potatoes and maize in America, they were not simply revealed by chance. Instead, they came out through a multifaceted process of co-evolution because preferred traits were chosen and propagated by the early farmers. Adoption of agriculture as a story is the narration of how early genetic engineers came up with both powerful and new tools that made progress itself possible. In the process man changed plants and eventually the same plants, in turn, transformed people.…

This same message is present in Pontiac’s letter especially when God explains “Nevertheless, you caught animals to eat and dressed in their skins, but when I saw you giving yourselves to evil, I withdrew the animals into the depths of the forests so that you would need your Brothers to supply your needs and clothe yourselves. All you have to do is become good and do what I want and I will send the animals back for you to live on.” In lines, one through nineteen and throughout the text a theme is to uphold, please, and worship God. This same idea is emphasized in “Letter to Pontiac” and could have been implanted by the…

All else, God declared into actuality, but with man He had taken on a more involved role, created him from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into him (Genesis 2:7 New Living Translation). Man was given rule over all earthy creation. Even though the last to be created, man is first of the earthly hierarchy. Above all, the only to be designed in His image. Being appointed to rule over creation, meant to take care of it as well, which included the animals (Genesis 1:28-31 New International Version).…

I met a county boy once before. He was a nice man who never wanted any harm from no one. His name was George and he grew up in the hollers in Kentucky. He told me how he grew up on his family’s farm and his job was to work the farm and tend to all the animals. He said that was just the way they lived. If someone didn’t take care of the farm and animals there wouldn’t be any food for them to eat.…

In Timothy Keller's Every Good Endeavor, we find in chapter three the meaning of work as cultivation. Work is a physical and mental process. It is also provision for the growing of the human race. Work as cultivation is a call to "fill the earth,” and not to just fill it with more people but to fill it by means of building up the human society. God made this our job. He called us to "rule and subdue” the earth. Ruling the earth should be seen as stewardship. God is the one that owns this world, but He called us to carry out His work by filling the earth and subduing the earth. The earth is undeveloped to an extent so that we may continue His work of "unfolding” the earth, extending it to it's potential.…

Every family moved to Minnesota with one common goal in mind. This goal was to have a home, a family, and a farm. Life on the farm was not easy; if Andrew Peterson was still living, he would attest to that. Peterson was a man of religion and land. He emigrated to the United States of America from Sweden; who came here with nothing but a dream and a prayer. After five years of life as a hired hand in Iowa, Peterson was given the opportunity to purchase land in Carver County, Minnesota. The land he purchased was nothing but Mother Nature's most beautiful green. Unbeknownst to Peterson, it would take him 20 years to carve out the farm land he desired. How daunting this seems, as his tools were elbow grease, an axe, and a scythe.…

The message of the whole short story is that of what a true believer does to keep believing. Church, mass, the day dedicated to the creator, are all examples of what most of the people do every Sunday; or at least what is expected. So, it happens that this Indian out of all the people at church took the priests’ lecture “You know that when you make a donation to God, He returns it…” literally. What the literal people do not know is that it is symbolic. The Indian took his only cow and gave to the priest expecting 100 cows in return. The thing is that the message behind the “giving” is that you have to work hard and with the help of God you will obtain the cows, eventually.…
