England FA Cup Final 2013 Match Report

Wigan Athletic had beaten the Giant!!!!

Wigan Athletic 1- 0 Manchester City. Substitute Ben Watson’s 90th minute goal helped Wigan create a great FA Cup final disappointment against last season’s Premier League champions Manchester City.

The match was held at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday 11th May 2013. The weather is fine and there was no empty seats left in the stadium.

All the talk before the match was how many goals it was going to be. Not because both sides are great attacking teams and everyone was hoping for a lovely flowing open game, but because Wigan were such rank outsiders that everyone, people were expecting City to win the silverware.

The City team was full strength even Joe Hart was in goal, as City took this seriously hoping to get some silverware for the third year in a row. The Wigan team on the other hand had a few changes from the midweek game. Out came Gary Caldwell and Ben Watson and in came Jordi Gomez and Antolin Alcaraz; both of which were good moves. But there was an unexpected result occurred!

Ben Watson, who had replaced Gomez with 10 minutes to go, powered home Shaun Maloney’s corner for the only goal of the game.Shaun Maloney took a corner kick at the last minute of normal time. His run up slow and concise saw a lovely out swinging cross whipped in, then a flash of ginger hair, as Ben Watson (on for Jordi Gomez) beat the City players to the near post for a glancing header, he watched amazed as all of us as it hit the back of the net.

1-0 to Wigan Athletic!!!!!

Absolute excitement as the travelling Wigan team supporters discharged it a mass spreading of noise and celebrations. The Wigan team had three minutes to hold on now. Three minutes to keep their walls up and their minds focused. City team threw the ball forward looking to find a flick on, or a half a chance, anything to get the equalizer.

Up went Wigan’s three center back, Scharner, Boyce and Alcaraz trying to get

Sir Stephen placed the ball on the penalty spot as he had done so many times before and did some last minute stretches before preparing to kick. The Wicked man was doing nothing at all, not stretching, not putting on keeper gloves, nothing at all except staring at Sir Stephen with a blank and disturbing expression. He strode towards the goal he would be defending and stopped just inside the goal, side-straddling the line that indicated a successful shot if the ball crossed it.…

Soccer is often called “The Beautiful Game.” It is an incredible sport that brings together people of all different religions, races, and cultures. However, when one begins to discuss the politics of soccer, it can be anything but beautiful and incredible. There is a major salary gap between men and women soccer players. This gap is a more prevalent problem today because the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is bringing in more revenue than the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT). The USWNT has also had a more successful career, winning the majority of their games within the last year. These points and other factors prove that they USWNT deserves more monetary recognition.…

One of the things that I hate about football is that, as a man, I am meant to like everything about it. I’m meant to have a team. I’m meant to care about how well that team does. If they win, I should rejoice; lose and I should despair. Worse, should my team, Over Paid Morons United, loose to the hated enemy, More Money the God City, I should lock myself in a room, cry tears of sorrow and beat myself about the head and neck because ‘we’ didn’t win. We.... We..... What kind of idiot says ‘we’ didn’t win? Did you play the game? Were you running around the pitch? Did you even touch the ball? No, you did not. You sat at home in front of the tele; reclining on the sofa like a beached whale, stuffing yourself with crisps. Or, you forked out hard earned money to watch over paid, over perfumed muppets prance about the pitch like demented chickens. Football supporters are not the team; they did not play the match. They are fools who follow a dream. The dream is that your football team matter and that the team cares about you. They don’t and your support means nothing to them. The closest you are ever…
