Social Activity Analysis
Social Activity I have met my assigned group, which consisted of five members: Leo, Jennifer, Jaimyra, Jake, and Patrick, on Sunday at noon in Highland Coffee. I believe that the place had really helped us getting over with awkwardness. Even though I had a lot of concerns about the group and meeting new people but it turned to be the best thing ever. At first, I was afraid of talking to anyone in the group, but then when I was the first one there, I was a little bit relieved because I had a bad impression of one member of the group, which was Leo, that made me a little bit stressed of meeting the others. As all group members came and especially that member I got nervous. As one of the members began talking and asking questions, I thought …show more content…
There was one funny part, at least, I thought it was, as I was talking about where I was from and Patrick asked me if Oman was a city or a country. I liked how Leo is really devoted to church and the work they do in spreading the gospels. Jake and Jaimyra had worked together before so I think to them it was a good thing to meet someone familiar. We also had the chance to talk about the next assignment and we started picking up a movie. I never thought that they would really mention anything that I was familiar with but my thoughts were wrong since they have mentioned a lot of movies that I have watched before. Since that meeting, I feel myself more confident in talking to new people and even have real conversations with real people and not just some imaginary people that I always talk to in my mind. Certainly, by now I can talk to my group without having the fear of misunderstanding. Since all groups need a leader, I guess that in my group there are two possible members; Leo and Patrick, but I think Leo would be the best option. I have a special request to you, Mrs. Fannin, please continue assigning this to all students because from my experience, I really feel that this was an enjoyable experience and it had reflected

Our first few moments consisted of unloading the van, and meeting Stentson Carpenter. He was the CEO of Rainbow Omega. He started the organization after his son passed away from down syndrome. He was determined and inspired to create a place where people like his son could reside and be cared for. After meeting Stentson, we got to meet the residents. They came in to the vocational building. The vocational building is where we stayed. It had a kitchen, laundry machines for the residents, a main area for various activities, and two small rooms for us to stay in. They came in through the side door into the main area. I remember I was nervous and yet anxious at the same time to meet them. We have a guy in our youth group who has down syndrome and I was and still am very comfortable around him, but meeting 82 people like him, made me uneasy. Josh was the first person I met. He was a little shy but very excited for us to be there. After getting to know me a little bit, he considered us best friends. He was no longer shy or scared around…

One my way to the meeting I was feeling really anxious. I didn’t really know what to expect. I could imagine how many people would be there or what the energy would be like. I wondered if there would be tears, or laughter. If it would be happiness or solemn silence. I had never been to anything like that so I think the feeling was just me being completely unsure. I was also excited to see what it would be like. To hear what they had to say and to connect with them.…

The meeting started off by the advisors discussing about the new mentorship program they are promoting to the EDN students. It’s like the Athletic Mentorship program where a EDN student who passed EDN 200 becomes a mentor for a student(s) who is either a first or second-year student that has yet to complete EDN 200. The mentors would guide the mentees on any questions they have on the EDN program, Taskstream, field experience, etc., and give them advices on what they’ve learned in the past to do in the first-level courses of the program. Then one of the advisors discussed what Teach First is and welcome anybody who is a first-generation student to come to the meetings. They discuss on upcoming service opportunities the club is going to take…

Group interactions were interesting. This particular meeting was called a “newcomers” meeting which added another touch. I arrived early so I was able to observe the setting up, which was a valuable experience. The atmosphere of this meeting was warm, friendly, nonthreatening, and accommodating, even to the point that lighting was brought up. Members who knew each other were like a family sub-unit, impressive. As with any group, the newcomers were obvious, me included. The chairs in the room were arranged in a circle, conversely, there were chairs on the wall. Two newcomers sat in chairs on the wall and another newcomer and I sat in the circle. We were given a book, complimentary, about Al-Alon and the twelve steps. Everyone stated their name before they talked and were told “thank you” by all members when the speaker finished. One gentleman thought he went…

The meeting began with some readings. I read on the AA Promises which I thought was a waste of time. In my opinion I felt like they should have left the readings for you to read to yourself because the meetings are on a time frame and people seem to have a lot of other important issues to talk about and be concerned with other than reading the same readings every time.…

This was my first day with a new workshop group, so I was kind of nervous. Since this was the second day for this workshop to meet, it seemed everyone was already acquainted with each other. Although, we started the workshop with everyone giving a brief introduction about themselves. This made me feel a lot more comfortable and closer with the group. I learned a lot of interesting things about my new facilitators. Glen was born and raised from North Carolina. He described himself as a renaissance man; the way he introduced his lifestyle and hobbies to us that is the perfect way to describe him. Glen is passionate about the outdoors; surfing and hiking, and loves to remodel furniture. His favorite summer vacation was living the whole summer on the beach which he spent surfing, driving his jeep, and cutting meats at his deli. Super cool. Amber is very happily married. She loves cartoons and anime. Throughout the workshop, I noticed how passionate she takes her job. She seemed very kind and caring towards her students that was taking this workshop…

The one extracurricular activity that is the most important to me is Junior Classical League (JCL). Because of the enthusiasm of my Latin teacher, who is a sponsor for JCL, I joined the club. Back when I first joined, my focus in the club was solely Certamen, a competition that surrounds the Latin language and Roman culture. As I spent in the club, however, it soon gained a dear place in my heart. The JCL community is truly incredible, and I formed many unforgettable friendships thanks to the club. Recently, I was in one of our Intermediate Certamen teams at Yale University Tournament, and my team won second place. Unfortunately, the other Intermediate team did not advance to the finals. What was really touching to me was not our victory but…

    Hamlet Hangout Analysis

Personally, the hangout went very well. Taking a class online takes away from having conversations with your peers, but this effectively fixed that issue. Everyone got a chance to speak and listen to the ideas of others and it was very eye-opening hearing opinions from people around Ottawa. Hearing others speak opened up my mind and gave me a whole new insight on Hamlet. One thing that I did find challenging was that this was the first time I got to meet my classmates and it was very nerve-wracking, it made use words like “um” and “yeah,” and talk a bit fast. Although, after 20 minutes of talking I got to open up and use these words less. To improve in the future, I think other students and myself should speak a bit slower and with more emotion,…
